    Context of the Job:

    The Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive student learning and psychological wellbeing program providing a diverse array of services so that students can be more successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits. The CCSD is IACS accredited and sponsors three levels of doctoral level training for psychologists including an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited doctoral internship.

    The Center's efforts focus on helping students reduce psychological symptoms, cope with complicated life events and developmental tasks, improve interpersonal skills and relationships and increase self-knowledge and problem-solving ability. The Center promotes equality and respect for individual and cultural differences. CCSD is part of the Division of Student Life which contributes to and facilitates critical learning and development within healthy, inclusive, and supportive communities so that all students may thrive at UD and beyond.     Under the direction of the Associate Director of Clinical Services, the Psychologist I has responsibility in three major areas: (1) performing counseling and psychotherapy, crisis management, and student development programming as well as advising and counseling those who seek professional consultation services; (2) performing roles in the training program; (3) connecting with campus colleagues and student organizations developing relationships and programming.

    The Center places dual emphasis on the value of clinical as well as team excellence. The Psychologist I is expected to be able to function both independently and collaboratively within and across disciplines and departments as duties require. These activities are subject to the usual evaluation process. The Psychologist I has contact with university students, faculty, professionals, and staff, as well as community members. The Psychologist I enhances CCSD's and University's national reputation through expertise in providing a broad range of college counseling services. The Psychologist I possesses a commitment to mission and values of the unit, portfolio, and division. These team skills are essential, as are skills in providing consultation to others and problem solving. The Psychologist I is capable of appropriately managing highly sensitive material and demonstrates competence with ethical and legal procedures.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Serve as an approachable resource for faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners.
    • Serve as an ideal participant on the interdisciplinary team including, but not limited to, cultivating a positive work environment and team culture.
    • On a rotating basis as assigned, respond to campus-wide weekday and overnight/weekend crisis situations including those that are life threatening as the designated University authority for the handling of mental health crisis situations in the University community.
    • Provide effective, high quality, evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy. Case load as assigned by Director.
    • Assess, evaluate, and diagnose a wide range of psychological disorders and personal, educational, and career development problems in undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Formulate case conceptualizations and develop, execute, monitor, and modify treatment plans that reflect evidence-based interventions that can be accomplished in a short-term model.
    • Maintain legally and ethically sound documentation and electronic medical record practices
    • Connect and liaise with campus colleagues and student organizations developing relationships and programming to engage and improve students' experiences on campus as directed and in accordance with center goals.
    • Provide consultation to students, professionals, faculty, and administrators for issues which have psychological dimensions as directed and in accordance with center goals.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of State and federal laws such as State of Delaware Child Abuse Reporting laws, FERPA, Title IX, and Clery Act.
    • Provide outreach to others on campus as directed and in accordance with center goals.
    • Initiate, develop, and provide student programs designed to enhance the intellectual, social, and personal growth of University students.
    • Participate in training program activities including, but not limited to, conducting seminars and supervising the counseling and clinical work of graduate students-in-training as directed and in accordance with center goals.
    • Provide after hours and weekend coverage at times for performance of outreach and consultation programs and services.
    • Serve on committees and/or perform special projects as directed and in accordance with center goals.
    • Perform other duties related to center and portfolio operations as assigned.
    • Maintain professional licensure and professional competence through appropriate continuing education opportunities.
    Qualifications
    • Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required, preferably from an academic department accredited by the American Psychological Association.
    • Completion of an APA-accredited internship in a college or university counseling center is preferred.
    • Licensed (or license eligible) in state of Delaware.
    • Experience working in a college counseling center, preferably a center with a training program.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the development of emerging adults; organizational and group dynamics, and student development issues and theory.
    • Effective interpersonal communication and team competency skills are required.
    • Excellent assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning skills.
    • Ability to assess and record symptoms, reactions, and treatment progress.
    • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of psychological care, including FERPA.
    • Ability to use independent judgment; ability to manage confidential information.
    • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
    • Understanding of Delaware Child Abuse Reporting law, FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, and trends in legal liability within college counseling center operations.
    • Proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Titanium, Point and Click, Excel, word processing, presentation software) and web navigation abilities.
    • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

    Special Requirement
    • Flexible work schedule required. Position may require early mornings, evening, and weekend hours.
