    Data and Business Intelligence Engineer needed for a Provo, UT university.

    Job Summary

    BYU Broadcasting is seeking a versatile individual to join our team as a Data and Business Intelligence Engineer.

    As a key member of our business intelligence team, you'll enjoy a significant level of autonomy while working on a variety of complex problems.

    This role presents an exciting opportunity for someone eager to contribute to innovative solutions, as you'll be involved in developing and modifying applications and systems to meet BYU Broadcasting's technical needs.


    In this position, you will take on leadership responsibilities, overseeing engineering and development solutions, optimizing ETL workflows, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our systems.

    Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in identifying and resolving systemic issues, setting technical standards, and maintaining our existing systems.

    Your leadership will extend to supervising students, trainees, and individual contributors, guiding small teams on specific projects, and ensuring compliance with our best practices.

    This role offers the chance to act as a technical lead within our data and business intelligence team, providing expertise and guidance in key areas of focus.

    Essential Functions

    Level 54T

    *Software Development:

    Design and implement scalable and efficient software solutions to handle, process, and analyze datasets.


    Architecture Development:
    Lead adherence to coding and architectural standards, conduct reviews, drive optimization, and promote modern tech for effective, scalable solutions.

    *Data Monitoring:

    Implementing processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate.

    *Data Pipelines:

    Building, optimizing, and orchestrating ETL pipelines at scale in AWS.

    *Supervision and Delegation:

    *Develop Interactive Reports and Dashboards:

    Create data visualizations with embedded logic for interactive reports and dashboards.

    *Data Modeling:

    Analyze and define complex database structures based on business models.

    *Documentation and

    Incident Resolution:
    Document system components of business, information, and technical architectures.
    Resolve incidents and outages not resolved by less-senior engineers.

    *Data Governance:

    *Strategy Development:

    Aid in crafting strategies and blueprints for development.

    Level 55T

    *Software Development:

    Design and implement scalable and efficient software solutions to manage, process, and analyze large scale datasets.

    *Architecture Development:

    Lead adherence to coding and architectural standards, conduct reviews, drive optimization, and promote modern tech for high-quality, scalable solutions.

    *Management, Supervision, and Delegation:

    *Data Pipelines:

    Building, optimizing, and orchestrating ETL pipelines at scale in AWS.

    *Data Monitoring:

    Implementing processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate.

    *Data Modeling:

    Analyze and define more complex database structures based on business models.

    Develop Interactive Reports and Dashboards 5%:
    *Documentation and

    Incident Resolution:
    Identify and resolve the root cause of recurring problems, involving vendors as necessary.
    Ensure that all proposed system alterations undergo thorough planning and review to mitigate the risk of unforeseen service disruptions.

    *Data Governance:


    Lead in creating standards for Data and BI Engineers to adhere to, and ensure adherence to technical and architectural standards.

    *Strategy Development:

    In charge of assessing, suggesting, implementing, verifying, enhancing, and managing current or potential system .

    Education/Experience

    Level 54T Minimum required:
    Bachelor's degree equivalent combination of education and/or related experience; 1-2 industry certifications preferred related to tools used in the job


    Preferred:
    Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of related experience.

    Level 55T Minimum required:
    Bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) plus 5 years of related experience


    Preferred:
    Equivalent combination of education and related experience; 1-2 industry certifications preferred related to tools used in the job.


    Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

    Required Skills:
    Experience in developing, testing, and deploying scalable software solutions.
    Relational database modeling and design (SQL, API, Data warehousing, Virtualization, Extract, transformation, load (ETL)).
    Basic understanding of data structures and basic programming principles.

    Competent in the following additional knowledge and skills:
    Project methodologies (managing scope, time, quality, budget).
    Analytics methodologies (best practices for queries).
    Breadth of business domains (higher education, accounting/finance, HR, etc).
    Data warehouse and data mart modeling and design.
    Event and stream processing (Kafka).
    Familiarity with Redshift, Fargate, Lambda, Spark, AWS Glue, or other relevant technologies.

    Experience in strategy development and assisting with the creation of technology roadmaps (in higher level).


    Preferred Skills:
    Strong knowledge in software architecture.
    Familiarity with AWS services, particularly those related to data management such as AWS Glue, Redshift, and Lambda.
    Experience with DevOPS and CI/CD practices.


    Pay Level:

    DOQ
