    SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:
    The OMW Pre-K Floater Assistant supports day-to-day instruction for Pre-K students at various sites (assigned by enrollment zone).

    Assigned site is determined (daily or weekly) by the need for additional adult support to maintain the ratio required at OMW sites.

    The OMW Pre-K Floater Assistant reports to the IPS Director of Early Learning or designee.


    WHAT YOU'LL DO:


    The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

    • Be aware of some basic school-based legal issues (student's IEP services/aids, IPS and school policies and procedures) and maintain confidentiality

    • Use effective communication strategies and be an active listener when interacting with students and adults
    • Respect confidentiality
    • Keep your focus on what is best for students
    • Follow through on any decisions made
    • Arrive on time with all necessary materials
    • Follow through by implementing decisions made or new skills learned
    • Assist individual students in performing activities initiated by the teacher
    • Supervise children in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground as well as arrival and dismissal times according to the assigned school's expectations
    • Assist in monitoring supplementary work and independent experiences
    • Reinforce learning in small groups or with individual students while the teacher works with other learners
    • Provide assistance with individualized materials
    • Assist the teacher in observing, recording and charting behavior or academic progress if asked
    • Assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management
    • Assist in preparation/production of instructional materials to be used with assigned student(s) as requested
    • Carry out instructional programs designed and monitored by the teacher
    • Operate and maintain classroom equipment when needed to benefit assigned student(s)
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    "Day In the Life" Overview

    On a regular day, as the OMW Pre-K Floater Assistant, you will:

    • report to the assigned school at the direction of your supervisor and provide support to the structure of the classroom, help ensure that all students have access to learning experiences and recognize that your work in the classroom is instrumental to the success of the students in the assigned school. The OMW Pre-K Floater Assistant reports to the IPS Director of Early Learning or designee.

    As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following:

    • Develop skills to support day-to-day instruction for Pre-K students at various sites that need additional adult support. In addition to maintaining skills to support interactions with different preschool teams and administrators at various schools.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships.
    • Strong organizational, multitasking skills and problem solving abilities.
    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

    Sixty semester hours; or an Associate Degree; or successfully pass the Para-Professional Assessment Exam. Evidence of experience in a preschool classroom and/or in the field of early childhood preferred.

    Willing to complete required items (fingerprinting, professional development, CPR, TB tests for example) to qualify for working at a certified Pre-K location.
