    The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school that centers the voices of students, families, and teachers seeks a collaborative, dedicated Director of Finance who is excited to work as part of a fun, creative and dedicated team. The Director of Finance provides leadership, systems, and accountability for Financial Operations, to ensure the financial success of the school.

    Day to Day Responsibilities:

    The Director of Finance is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day functioning of the school. This role includes, but is not limited to:

    • Financial/Bookkeeping
    • Create and maintain high standards of financial management and oversight with regard to budgets, cash flow statements, expenditures, and revenues.
    • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as all other requirements (federal, state, local).
    • Provide bookkeeping services to school using provided financial and accounting software.
    • Provide regular feedback to the Head of School on tools and resources that may strategically improve financial management.
    • Supervise daily accounting of school including accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, payroll and benefits, general ledger, taxes, and allocation of non-financial resources.
    • Oversee the annual Independent Audit process in conjunction with auditing firms (including single audit/yellow book and UCOA audits).
    • Supervise 1 FT Finance Assistant, 1 FT Payroll Manager.

    Insurance/Employee Benefits Management

    • Oversee annual insurance policy reviews (Umbrella, D&O, Fiduciary, Group Life) to ensure sufficient liability coverage.
    • Complete annual benefit audits such as Worker's Compensation and Department of Labor.
    • Research, manage, and administer all benefit programs offered by the school in compliance with staff contracts and applicable laws (health, dental, vision, life insurance, short term disability plans).
    • Oversee administration of retirement plans for all staff (401k and Teacher's Retirement System of Rhode Island, TIAA-CREF).
    • Oversee the on-boarding process for all newly hired employees in conjunction with HR.
    • Monitor and update personnel policy manual as needed/requested by leadership and board.

    RIDE/Federal Grants Management

    • Design and collaborate on annual budgets for all CRP grants (Title I, II, III, IDEA, 21st Century, ESSER/COVID Recovery Funding).
    • Maintain Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA) reporting process to RIDE on a semi-annual basis.
    • Oversee budget correspondence and quarterly reporting to RI AG's office.
    • Prepare and submit all quarterly reimbursement requests to ensure timely processing and payment.
    • Prepare and submit all relevant annual reports, evaluations, and data to both internal and external agencies, funding sources, and parties.

    On-Going Fiscal Oversight

    • Establish priorities and maintenance of financial outputs on a daily and/or weekly basis.
    • Serve as staff liaison to Board Finance Committee.
    • Support the Board Treasurer by keeping him/her apprised of fiscal status.
    • Prepare all financial reports, balance sheets, projections, and audit information available to him/her, and respond in a timely way to any other requests for information.
    • Provide verbal and written financial report at all Board of Directors meetings, in coordination with Head of School.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of School.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    To be considered for this position, candidates must have a bachelor's degree, however a master's degree is preferred. Candidates must also have at least 5 years of work experience with progressive leadership. They must be a U.S. citizen or resident or have work visas. In addition candidates must demonstrate:

    • Finance Leadership. The Director of Finance has a strong background in nonprofit management/school operations.
    • Finance Expertise. The ideal candidate will have experience using Quickbooks, ADP Workforce Now, Accelegrants, Microsoft 365 Suite, Google Admin is required. Experience with the Universal Chart of Accounts (UCOA) for the State of Rhode Island is highly preferred.
    • Attention to Detail. They will possess a strong attention to detail with robust analytical skills.
    • Time Management. This candidate will demonstrate the ability to multitask, highly organized with strict adherence to work deadlines consisting of many moving parts.
    • Professionalism and strong follow-through. They deliver high-quality, thorough, work on-time, every time or communicate proactively if they will miss a commitment or need support. Highly skilled at written and verbal communication and working with people.

    Salary, Benefits and Other Details:

    Workday. This position is a full-time role based at the Learning Community Charter School in Central Falls, Rhode Island with eight weeks of leave annually, four weeks during typical school holidays and four weeks dispersed throughout the school year.

    Salary. For this role, our budgeted compensation range is $90,000- $105,000, commensurate with experience.

    Vacation and Benefits. In addition, we are proud to currently offer:

    • Medical Insurance: 95% paid by LC regardless of plan type (single, family, etc.) $8k-$20k value, depending on type of coverage.
    • 401k Retirement: No waiting period for voluntary contributions; 7% base salary match after 1 year of work. 3 years of work to be fully vested.
    • Life Insurance: $50k life insurance plan free of charge while you are employed by LC.
    • Time off: 8 weeks of vacation throughout the school year; 12 paid holidays; 13 paid sick days/2 paid personal days per year.
