- Be part of a dynamic team that is involved in all aspects of nursery operations, including propagation, cultivation, maintenance, inventory, and irrigation management of citrus trees
- Implement and supervise propagation techniques such as grafting and budding, to produce high-quality citrus trees
- Monitor and maintain the health of citrus trees, including disease and pest management, irrigation, and fertilization
- Maintain irrigation records and perform periodic pH and EC testing of irrigation water
- Work closely with the R&D team to execute trials in both the nursery and citrus orchards. Should be detail oriented and aid in collecting, recording, and analyze data on crop performance, soil health, pest, and disease management
- Ensure that all citrus trees produced meet quality standards
- Be a self-motivated and flexible team player with a strong work ethic
- Lead a team of nursery workers, providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure efficient and effective nursery operations
- Performs all tasks in a safe manner. Required to wear all safety gear assigned and asks for instructions when unfamiliar or lacking knowledge of proper safety procedures
- Preparing and packing trees for field delivery (loading/unloading)
- Cleaning equipment and facilities
- Maintaining and repair irrigation system
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. Temperatures range from 85 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit or more during the year. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Perform other responsibilities related to farming or as directed by supervisor
- High School Diploma required, Bachelor of Science degree preferred
- Previous experience in nursery work
- Ability to work alone without close supervision
- Intermediate communication skills and team-driven
- Must also have good physical dexterity to work with small plants and small containers
- Have adequate leadership and communication skills to direct, schedule and coordinate personnel and services
- Be a quick learner with good knowledge retention and an eye for detail
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and co-workers
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
