    Description
    The Department of Religion and Classics at University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time appointment as Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies anticipated to begin in July 2024.

    The successful applicant will contribute to our Religion/Politics/Society track and focus on Islam in the Middle East, East or Southeast Asia, or Africa (in any time period). The candidate should be able and willing to teach History of Islam and Introduction to the Qur'an, as well as courses in their area of specialization. The ability to teach an upper-level Arabic class per year is desired, but not required. Ideally, the candidate would be able to cross-list courses with the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies and/or the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies. The teaching load will consist of six courses per year (a 3-3 load). The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities sponsored by the Department, to play a dynamic role in outreach and cultivate interdisciplinary on-campus partnerships.

    Qualifications
    A Ph.D. in Religion or a related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and with demonstrated potential and/or excellence in research and publications in the candidate's field.
