    • Job Summary
      • The Infection Preventionist RN is a registered professional nurse who performs surveillance, prevention, and control activities to reduce risk of endemic and epidemic nosocomial infections of patients, visitors, and employees. This individual is responsible for the Infection Control Program and Employee Health Program of MDH. Day to day supervisors for duties and assignments will be through the Infection Preventionist RN Coordinator.

      • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Currently licensed RN in the state of Illinois (or eligible). Five years of patient care experience. Current licensure in Illinois as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) represents a level of knowledge and commitment to professional growth in the field of infection prevention and control. Certification is recommended within 5 years of acceptance of the position but not required.

        JOB KNOWLEDGE: Expert knowledge of patient care process. Basic knowledge of the control of infections. Knowledge and participation on continuous quality improvement tools and techniques. Ability to function in a fast-paced, integrate interdisciplinary model to improve client care and outcomes. Ability to adequately use or learn computer software and hardware applications.

        • Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
      • OTHER: The RN will successfully complete orientation and hospital-wide and department-specific CBL's (computerized based learning). The RN will participate in departmental inservices and will demonstrate competency by completing the service specific competency testing / evaluation process, as appropriate to the RN role. Continuing education programs will be offered to augment the RN's knowledge of pertinent developments in patient care and to foster a performance improvement environment.
