    Manager, Commercial Lines Underwriting

    Come join an amazing team at NJM in Commercial Lines As a result of increased market share demand and growth, NJM Insurance Group, a leading mid-Atlantic property casualty carrier, is now adding to our underwriting leadership team.

    We are seeking a seasoned professional for a critical role that involves providing leadership and oversight of our Commercial Lines Supervisors and Underwriting Staff in the small and middle market space.

    This role contributes to developing and executing strategic plans for product and geographic expansion while ensuring timely and customer centric assistance to all customers, underwriters, and agents.

    This position will be based in NJM's West Trenton, New Jersey corporate office.

    Compensation for this position will be in the $ 140,000 to $170,000 rage ( commensurate with relevant experience and credentials).

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversees department's adherence to and fosters the continuing development of Commercial Underwriting policies and protocols, for new business, renewals, and endorsements
    • Accomplishes profitability and growth results by providing leadership to staff with setting and achieving goals and objectives that are aligned with Commercial Lines Strategic Objectives
    • Responsible to coach and develop supervisors and underwriters in order to higher profitable growth performance levels and career development
    • Provides guidance to supervisors and underwriting leadership to ensure appropriate underwriting resource allocation and performance results achieved
    • Monitors productivity/performance standards and results achieved.
    Proactively recommends and implements corrective actions in order to achieve the desired outcomes and results to plan

    • Provides input on management aspects of Underwriting processing flow (application, coverage entry, underwriting processing, balancing timing of entries while maintaining entry of schedule rating off-balance lists) in the issuance of new and renewal accounts
    • Attract, develop, and lead diverse team that maximize performance and create opportunities for the movement of talent
    • Oversees the distribution of work assignments to Underwriters
    • Identify opportunities to apply and leverage technology to maximize workflow efficiencies and staff capabilities in order to provide our customers and agency partners with superior service
    • When necessary, respond to complex correspondence and verbal inquiries from our agency partners and policyholders
    • Hire, train and manage assigned underwriting staff.

    Training responsibilities related to the following activities:

    • Assess underwriting, and agency relationship training needs
    • Secure training resources
    • Implement training plan
    • Monitor progress
    • Requires staff to deliver a high level of customer service and quality of work
    • Handle and resolve escalated internal and external customer issues and concerns
    • Stays abreast of trends in NJM's Commercial lines of business and the marketplace at large. Understands how risks, trends, emerging and strategic issues affect NJM and policyholders
    • Participates and supports technology initiatives/enhancements
    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    • Strong communications skills (verbal, written and active listening)
    • Demonstrated successful track record providing leadership to diverse, cross functional and inter-disciplinary teams
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities while dealing with interruptions and able to regain focus on task at hand
    • Proficiency in computer usage, accurate data entry, Microsoft office suite and business-related software
    • Able to contribute to various system related design and system issues resolution
    • Ability to collaborate and foster collaboration with other Commercial Lines departments
    • Working technical knowledge of all Property & Casualty lines of business, including Property, General Liability, Crime, Inland Marine, Automobile, Workers Compensation and Umbrella

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor or Master's degree is preferred
    • A minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in the related lines of business is preferred
    • 7 years of commercial lines underwriting leadership experience in middle market and/or small Commercial Package, Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto and Excess/Umbrella is required
    • Previous supervisory experience of commercial lines underwriters is required
    • Demonstrates a customer experience and customer centric continuous improvement mindset
    • Previous experience working and managing independent insurance agency relationships

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES

    • Insurance designations such as CPCU, ARM, AU etc. are a plus. The same for any producer licensing. However, they are not required.
