    Community and Family Resources is currently seeking a Counselor provider substance abuse and gambling treatment services to the patients on our Adult Woman's Residential Unit.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • ** Intake/assessment:**
    • Assists clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents.
    • Conducts individual assessment sessions for completion of psychosocial histories of clients.
    • Participates with Program Supervisor in development of recommendations for clients.
    • Prepares and distributes assessment results, reports, etc. as required and requested.
    • Assists in other assessment processes as required and requested.
    • ** Treatment services:**
    • Provides client orientation to treatment services.
    • Assists in the development, coordination, and evaluation of treatment program.
    • Conducts individual and family sessions consistent with treatment plans.
    • Develops and coordinates individual treatment plans with client, Program Director, and referral sources.
    • Facilitates groups as required and provides follow-up services.
    • May be asked to act as Program Supervisor's designee in interviewing each client before admission in order to preview all intake data with client.
    • ** Community education and prevention:**
    • Participates in coordination of community awareness programs concerning substance use and problem gambling.
    • Provides community education about substance use and problem gambling when consistent with program philosophy and personal expertise.

    Schedule:

    • Type: Full-time
    • Hours: 40 hours each week offering two shifts: Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday- Thursday

    Education and Experience Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited educational institution, preferably in the social or behavioral sciences is required. Three years of experience as a full-time substance use and/or gambling treatment counselor can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
    • Upon hire, is a requirement of the position that the employee will seek certification as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) and subsequently as an International Alcohol & Drug Counselor (IADC), as soon as the person can meet the qualifications per the Iowa Board of Certification standards.

    Required Knowledge and Abilities:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or agency employees.
    • Ability to apply previous experience and training to the provision of problem gambling and substance use treatment services.
    • Ability to establish good working relationship with clients and staff,
    • Ability to secure appropriate information by direct and collateral interviews,
    • Ability to analyze problems presented, to bring agency/community resources to bear within policies and regulations, and to develop and implement effective courses of action.
    • Skill in client evaluation, therapeutic planning, and integrating best practices into the therapeutic milieu.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
    • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful events personally and professionally.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate Quality Assurance practices within the department.
    • Ability to use a computer including internet software, spreadsheet software, word-processing software, and electronic health record.
