    The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Temporary Sanitation Equipment Operator with Solid Waste Services.

    The employee performs difficult semiskilled work driving recycling sanitation equipment or related equipment, loading, and unloading collected materials; does related work as required.

    Employees in this class perform the skilled operation of moderately complex specialized maintenance and construction automotive equipment; work involves responsibility for safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment; position also involves heavy manual work in collecting and loading materials; position requires manipulative skill and dexterity in the operation of heavy/complex, specialized equipment; some supervision may be performed by employees in this class; work is performed with considerable independence, but subject to a supervisor's review for quality, quantity, safety in operation, and care of equipment.


    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and other regulations governing automotive equipment operation; thorough knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of heavy automotive and similar public works equipment; thorough knowledge of the component parts, operating principles, and maintenance needs of equipment; thorough knowledge of city and county, including location and layout of streets and alleyways; ability to service various types of equipment and to make minor running repairs; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions and to prepare required reports; skill in the operation of moderately complex equipment; physical strength and agility sufficient to operate equipment in occasionally adverse weather conditions; manual dexterity required to operate machinery

    Acceptable Experience and Training:

    Completion of high school diploma or GED is desirable; some experience in the operation and routine maintenance of trucks, specialized automotive equipment, or related automotive equipment; any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.

    The ability to obtain a Tennessee Commercial Vehicle Driver License (CDL) within one hundred and twenty (120) days of employment.

    The City will provide the required training to a obtain a commercial driver's license. Recent experience driving solid waste collection vehicles is desirable. Pre-employment DOT physical, drug screening and background check required.
