    General Purpose of Job:

    To provide immediate supervision to the formula room and breast milk center preparation staff, training, and inventory controls. To prepare and deliver all formula needed for patient use in providing coverage for the formula room and breast milk center.

    • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
    • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
    • Trains new formula/ breast milk center aides in job duties.
    • Completes monthly cost analysis reports for budget purposes.
    • Maintains records and inputs charges of formula compounds and any rental supplies.
    • Assists in preparation of departmental work schedules.
    • Maintains quality assurance monitors as established.
    • Keeps refrigerators clean where formula is stored on each nourishment kitchen.
    • Assures that areas are cleans and arranges all formula room cupboards and counters. Maintains cleaning schedules and monitors staffs daily cleaning schedules.
    • Defrosts formula room/ breast milk center refrigerator as needed.
    • Checks nourishment floor refrigerators/ unit refrigerators for any leftover formula.
    • Washes and sterilizes bottles and other equipment following sanitation procedures.
    • Takes formula/supply inventory and orders formula for Food and Nutrition Service storeroom.
    • Prepares the formula ordered for each patient by following computer orders.
    • Follows department policies and procedures for age-appropriate formula preparations.
    • Mixes the formula/ breast milk to endure proper sterilization/sanitation of formulas.
    • Prepares extra formulas to be left in formula room refrigerators for emergency use at night.
    • Prepares labels for each bottle of formula (patient name, floor and/or room number, type, expiration date, and strength of formula).
    • Delivers all formula to each nursing unit.
    • Prepares worksheets/Kardex for following day.
    • Assures that all formula room/ breast milk center Kardex's are kept current; making changes as necessary.
    • Interacts closely with Dietitian in areas of uncertainty.
    • Attends all department and hospital in-services as required.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Supervises the following job classes:
    • Formula / Breast Milk Technician
    Education and/or Experience:
    • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
    • Food Manager's Permit
    • Food Handler's Permit
