- Minimum 5 years in hospital pharmacy, ambulatory clinic pharmacy, or retail pharmacy
- Valid pharmacy technician license in the State of Alaska
- Pharmacy Technician National Certification within 3 months of hire and subsequently every three years
- Clinical Competency Assessment within 3 months of hire and subsequently every three years
- Knowledge of drug names and strengths, generic equivalents, pharmaceutical and medical terminology, and pharmacy law
- Skills in sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling
- Basic math skills for calculating dosages
- Ability to triage questions and refer appropriately
- Communication skills for interacting with patients and staff
- Provide technical support to pharmacists and pharmacy services
- Retrieve medications from shelves and dispensing robots, count and label containers under supervision
- Clean and refill dispensing robots and counting devices daily
- Order and replace stock in the pharmacy
- Retrieve and interpret medication orders; perform calculations; enter orders into the pharmacy computer system for review
- Label, fill, and deliver medication to patient care locations
- Perform medication adjudication, including resolving pharmacy billing rejections
- Maintain equipment and perform required recordkeeping
- Conduct inventory, and order, receive, and stock drugs and supplies
- Restock and clean the IV hood before and after compounding; clean the IV room daily
- Maintain a log of hood pressures and notify maintenance of any issues
- Refill emergency room and unit-based dispensing machines; file proper paperwork
- Complete documentation when preparing and delivering controlled substances
- Receive and triage information requests, provide information, or refer to the pharmacist
- Retrieve expired, recalled, or discontinued medications; complete proper documentation
- Assist in documenting unit-specific procedures and quality assurance activities under pharmacist review
- Answer telephones and take requests for prescription refills
- Communicate with patients at the pharmacy window and manage traffic within the pharmacy
- Answer patient questions or refer them to the pharmacist
- Give courtesy calls and manage prescriptions not picked up within two weeks
- Dispense prepared refill prescriptions under supervision
- Check crash carts for outdated or recalled drugs and replenish as needed
- Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and organized
- Monitor refrigerator temperatures used to store medication
- Perform other duties as assigned
