About the Biomedical Science Careers Program (BSCP)
BSCP, an independent charitable non-profit organization, is housed in the Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership (DICP). The BSCP was established in 1991 with the aim of increasing the representation of underrepresented minority and disadvantaged individuals in all facets of science and medicine while helping health care institutions, biopharma/biotechnology firms, educational institutions, professional organizations and private industry members meet their need for a diverse workforce. The primary objective of all BSCP activities is to identify, inform, support, and provide mentoring for academically outstanding students/fellows, particularly from groups such as Black/African-American, Hispanic/LatinX and American Indian/Alaska Native, Disabled and LGBTQ.

Organizational Mission: BSCP inspires members of every race, ethnic background, gender and financial status to ask why not me? We meet the student where they are in their journey, provide a community to network and connect, and with encouragement, support and guidance, help them achieve their potential in pursuit of biomedical science and other science-related careers.

    Position Description
    • Create and launch a development strategy for BSCP including overseeing the acquisition and deployment of donor-management software.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the use of donor-management software and reporting. Assure smooth and efficient gift processing and acknowledgement.
    • Serve as staff liaison, along with ED, to the development committee for the BSCP Board of Directors; support Board giving; aid the committee in identifying fundraising goals, opportunities and priorities; and partner with the Board on identifying and engaging prospects.
    • Oversee the day-to-day activities required to secure philanthropic funding for BSCP. The Advancement Officer will work closely with ED to identify potential funding opportunities and develop donor materials, such as a case for support.
    • Collaborating with DICP in identifying funding across co-sponsored programs
    • Support the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities for all donors and implement SOPs of activities aligned with each potential funder.
    • Conduct prospect research on potential funders including potential connections to BSCP and its volunteers/Board.
    • Collaborate with ED to create proposals/grant requests for funders as required.
    • Act as primary point of contact for funding, donations and fundraising campaign inquiries. Lead fundraising strategy alongside development committee and event co-chairs for all fundraising events, including but not limited to annual Evening of Hope gala.
