    Job Title: Forensic Analyst (Temporary with Potential for Permanent)

    Location: Santa Rosa, CA 95403

    Duration: 6 months, with potential for permanent employment

    Shift Time: 9am - 5:30 pm


    Job Summary

    The Entry-Level Forensic Analyst will support the daily operations of the Ascertain Forensics Lab.

    This position is ideal for candidates with a basic chemistry background who wish to grow into a full Forensic Analyst role.

    Initial tasks will include basic chemistry lab work with training and development opportunities leading to more complex forensic toxicology duties.

    This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, with the potential for permanent employment dependent on performance and lab needs.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Assist in the preparation and processing of biological and non-biological samples for forensic analysis.
    • Maintain accurate records of laboratory data, including Chain of Custody (COC) documentation and batch processing.
    • Perform basic operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and GC-FID.
    • Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with quality control standards.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and report any safety concerns to the Laboratory Director.
    • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and the Laboratory Director to ensure accurate data processing and reporting.
    • Participate in on-the-job training to develop skills in forensic toxicology and meet the requirements for certification by the State of California Department of Public Health as a Title 17 Forensic Alcohol Analyst Trainee.
    • Potentially testify in court regarding laboratory methods, analysis, and chain of custody when required.
    • Assist with inventory management, equipment maintenance, and other related tasks as assigned.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological discipline. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in forensic toxicology or forensics from an institution accredited in forensic science or forensic toxicology.
    • Prior laboratory experience is highly preferred, but not required.
    • Strong attention to detail, teamwork, critical thinking, ability to follow SOPs, effective communication, and customer focus.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Smartsheet. Basic knowledge of chemistry and lab procedures.
    • Possession of, or eligibility for, certification by the State of California Department of Public Health as a Title 17 Forensic Alcohol Analyst Trainee.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory or similar environment.
    • Current recognition as a Forensic Alcohol Analyst under Title 17.
    Additional Information
    • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemicals. Compliance with laboratory safety protocols is mandatory.
    • Business attire may be required for court appearances.
    • Performance and laboratory needs will determine the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position at the end of the 6-month period.
