Description
RAND Data Scientists work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of research on a wide range of issues spanning health care, education and labor, social and economic wellbeing, national security, and military manpower.
Data Scientists are expected to acquire a basic understanding of the research topic and a thorough knowledge of the data involved while applying programming and analytic skills.
Basic QualificationsAbility to program using SAS or R for data management and statistical analysis
Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of statistical methods
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to produce careful and detail-oriented work
Ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in any of the following is preferred:
Simulation modeling (agent-based, dynamic, or discrete event methods)
Data science in health economics and healthcare
Development and maintenance of large language model (LLM) pipelines
Experience working with longitudinal surveys preferred
Experience working in research settings strongly preferred
Education
BA/BS in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field required. MA/MS in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field preferred.
Experience
Minimum three years of experience in statistical programming with SAS or R, preference for candidates with experience in both.
Minimum one year of experience working with health-care claims data from Medicare, Medicaid, or private-sector health-care claims such as Marketscan data.
Coding Sample RequiredApplicants will be required to provide Code sample(s) -related work uploaded as a writing sample.
Security Clearance
U.S. Citizenship may be necessary for positions requiring a U.S. government security clearance.

Salary Range
Level II:
$82,100 - $122,100
Level
III:
$95,100 - $144,800
Level IV:
$113,700 - $173,600
RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity.
The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
