    JOB SUMMARY

    The Quality and Safety Program Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and safety standards within UVA Community Health Medical Group (UVACH MG). This individual is responsible for coordinating and monitoring quality improvement and safety programs, procedures, and policies for the Medical Group. The role involves collaborating with various departments to identify areas for improvement, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. The Quality and Safety Program Specialist reports to the UVACH Medical Group Director of Nursing and Quality,
    • Design and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of quality and safety programs.
    • Identify areas of improvement and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
    • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on quality and safety standards.
    • Promote a culture of quality and safety awareness throughout the organization.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of quality and safety processes.
    • Prepare and distribute reports on key performance indicators, audit findings, and compliance status.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement quality improvement initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in quality and safety processes.
    • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance overall organizational performance.
    Patient Care: Acts with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.
    • Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system.
    • Analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care.
    • Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies.
    • Prioritizes job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.
    Communication: Consistently utilizes appropriate communication tools when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care.
    • Communicates individualized plan of care to the patient and his/her chosen support system.
    • Uses communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) to communicate more effectively.
    • Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.
    Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers to provide efficient treatment of patients.
    • Develops team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback.
    • Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate.
    • Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively upon feedback from others.
    Medical Knowledge: Demonstrates medical skills to provide required patient care.
    • Operates various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, bedside commodes, etc.
    • Provides routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, etc. for multiple patients in a timely manner.
    • Assists in critical situations including administering CPR.
    • Administers and evaluates medication therapies, performs patient transfers, and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
    The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field required. Master's degree preferred. Training in quality, performance improvement and statistical analysis preferred.

    Experience: 5 years of experience required in an ambulatory setting required. Minimum of three years in quality improvement and safety program management preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

    Licensure: Registered nurse or other healthcare license in applicable state preferred. CPHQ required within 2 years of hire

    Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to adapt communication/education style and content to various audiences. Attention to detail and accuracy; must be able to work with changing priorities. Excellent organization, planning, and coordinating skills. Able to work independently and on multidisciplinary teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Teams Project Management, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio for data analysis and reporting. Ability to travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.
