Head of Engineering - San Francisco, United States - Caldera

    Default job background
    Description
    Head of Engineering

We're looking for an incredible Head of Engineering to help us build the future of Ethereum.

This is an ideal opportunity for an engineering leader who's passionate about building and managing best-in-class engineering teams from the ground up. If you're looking to work in a fast-paced, high-impact team and help shape the direction of our product and company, this position is for you.

We're backed by some of the best investors across tech and Web3 (Sequoia Capital, Dragonfly, and many more) and offer competitive pay, generous equity in the company, and full benefits.

    About Caldera

Caldera enables dynamic, scalable blockchain experiences. Currently, dapps that are deployed to general-purpose blockchain compete with thousands of other applications for space on the network - this can lead to congestion and high fees or even network outages.

That's where we come in. We're building software that makes it easy for the most innovative blockchain applications to launch their own ultra-performant blockchains (rollups), enabling applications to own their ecosystem, scale to millions of users, and provide a superior user experience to their users.

Some of the best teams in Web3 use Caldera to power their chains, including Manta, Injective, Rarible, and Kinto. For a full list of our users, check out our customers page.

We have a hybrid team across San Francisco and remote locations. The Head of Engineering position is an in-person role in San Francisco's financial district.

As Head of Engineering, you will...
    • Oversee the engineering function at Caldera to build useful, fast, scalable product
    • Have ownership over growing the engineering team from the ground up, be responsible for hiring and evaluating candidates, and the engineering recruiting funnel
    • Be an active voice in product discussions, and help translate product priorities to engineering priorities.
    • Be a key member of the leadership team, and work closely with the co-founders and heads of other departments
    • Help produce clearer engineering levels and growth paths, and mentor other engineers
You're a fit for this role if you...
    • Have managed and built high-performing engineering teams in the past
    • Have keen intuition at system design, technical architecture, planning projects, and developing internal processes
    • Have hired top-tier talent before. You know how to evaluate and sell the company to engineering talent, and run a tight engineering recruitment process
    • Get energy from helping others succeed
    • Can make decisions quickly under uncertainty, and can communicate decisions clearly and respectfully to get all members of the team rowing in the same direction
    • Aren't afraid to ask tough or deep questions
    • Possess strong experience and knowledge of the crypto space, or a strong curiosity and demonstrated interest to learn
