- Oversee and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise, sales & use tax, and VAT returns.
- Ensures all compliance requirements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist and mentor entry-level accountants in tax law research and applicability.
- Assist with the implementation of process improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of tax staff.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies.
- Provide guidance on complex tax matters and advise management on tax implications of decisions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Analyze financial data to identify and address tax-related issues.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess potential implications.
- Prepare and review estimated tax payments and extensions.
- Represent the organization in tax audits and hearings for motor fuel and sales tax.
- Research tax-related inquiries and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in accounting or finance.
- Effective team member with the ability to work with internal and external business partners and taxing authorities.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Five years of Fuel Excise tax experience or more preferred.
- Five years of Sales and Use Tax and/or VAT reporting required.
- Advanced knowledge in Excel via lookups, pivots, and formulas.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking to interpret motor fuel tax law and explain proper scenarios to states and or jurisdictions.
- Works well under filing deadlines while meeting all assignments.
- Adaptable to growth and changing business environment.
