The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees.It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services.
The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.POSITION SUMMARY:
Interventional Radiology (IR) technologist is responsible for providing patient services using invasive cardiovascular technology under the direction of a provider, leading to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired organ and vascular disease.
Responsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures at a level that does not require constant supervision of technical detail.
IR technologists assist in the performance of a variety of procedures requiring independent judgment, good knowledge of anatomy, and high technical knowledge of equipment.
The IR technologist has a constant awareness of infection control standards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness of patient care protocols.
The IR technologist will be responsible for representing the Organization to the IR patient in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.
COMPETENCIES:
- Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique, and radiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice.
- The ability to speak, read and write using the English language is required in order to read procedures that are ordered, communicate with patients.
- The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with individuals from all age groups and demonstrate patience and empathy with patients.
- Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Positive professional demeanor is projected through verbal and non-verbal communications.
- Must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel is required in order to perform essential duties.
- Successfully complete ECHN's High Reliability Organization Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all routine radiographic procedures according to department standards, protocols and guidelines required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the State of Connecticut.
- Performs quality and compassionate patient care, utilizing appropriate age specific standards, in order to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
- Verifies physician orders on requisitions prior to proceeding 100%25 of the time.
- Critiques and assesses the overall quality of images taken. Uses a combination of skill, experience, and judgment in improving the quality of images (i.e., adjusts the contrast, manipulates the size of the image, annotates, etc.). Provides careful critique and assessment of image quality.
- Properly sets up angiographic equipment so it is ready to function prior to the exam, including selecting correct accession number from the modality work list.
- Sterile technique policies and practices are followed and monitored.
- Maintains adequate stock levels and personal protection equipment in the Angio Suite.
- Has a good knowledge of the room's stock and where items are located. Actively participates in the maintenance of stock, and the ordering of supplies.
- Maintains professionalism in line with the Organization's Core Values during stressful situations with minimal disruption of professional capabilities.
- Exhibits accuracy in computer patient and diagnostic procedure documentation.
- Exhibits a willingness to accomplish a task and works well as a team member.
- Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities in order to further their own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others .
- Efficiently and effectively provides procedural support for a variety of patient procedures.
- Utilizes proper safety measures during procedures for all people present in the room to ensure minimum physical risk for patients, self, and staff.
- Wears radiation badge every day of work.
- Responsible for achieving quality assurance measures and requirements.
- Quality images are consistently sent to PACS.
- Universal Protocol checklists are completed properly.
- Assist in training newly hired staff.
- Successfully completes any continuing education, staff meetings and training.
- Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities.
- Feedback is solicited and accepted in a positive manner.
- Accountability for actions and decisions is demonstrated in daily work.
- Recognizes and performs duties to maximize team effort and patient throughput, such as room prep, restocking supplies, and offering assistance to others when own assignments are completed.
- Serves, manages, and supports internal and external customers.

- Help is offered to others to solve problems and complete tasks to facilitate communication and positive team dynamics.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Graduate of an A.M.A. approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Associates degree required, Bachelors preferred.
- RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), may not be on any type of probation. Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography Certification by the ARRT preferred.
- Maintain a valid State of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technical procedures.
- On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU's) needed to maintain the currency of state licensure.
- The employee must take and pass the mandatory annual education program and meet the age-specific knowledge/skill requirements, annually.
- Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain competency during employment within this role.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with organizational policy.
