    Introduction to the team

    We are currently seeking a Tax Controversy Manager to join our firm. This leadership role in our growing Specialty Tax Practice will give you an opportunity to work with a dedicated team of Moss Adams specialists managing federal and state & local tax controversy matters for our clients. You will be able to utilize your technical tax, analytical, and client service skills. In addition, you will have the opportunity to expand your skill set due to our varied tax work with our diverse client base. Mentoring and training Staff and Seniors is a crucial aspect of developing a tax practice and is an integral part of this job.

    Responsibilities

    • Manages and resolves a diverse range of tax controversy issues on behalf of our clients
    • Represents multiple clients simultaneously in dealings with federal, state, and local authorities
    • Negotiates the successful resolution of tax controversy related matters
    • Researches matters; documents and communicates information to involved parties
    • Understands the evolving business environment
    • Strategizes with Firm leadership regarding tax planning for client recommendations
    • Assists in identifying opportunities for growth with clients
    • Assists with other tax department projects such as performing complex tax research, and other federal and state tax issues
    • Prepares and responds to IRS requests for information
    • Consults and coordinates with outside advisors relating to tax research and audit issues

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required and/or an advanced degree in Tax or Accounting preferred
    • CPA license, JD or LLM required. If not certified, must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment
    • Minimum of five years progressive experience with compliance and controversy aspects of tax engagements. Additional years of experience can be from industry, law practice, and/or governmental agency
    • Broad tax experience with strong federal tax emphasis required
    • Entrepreneurial desire and strong time management and project management skills
    • Strong interest in research, industry trends, and business development
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to research tax law and apply law facts
    • Strong presentation skills and organizational techniques
    • Willingness to travel
    • Capable of managing multiple client engagements in addition to completing tasks related to business development
    • Highly motivated and able to take the initiative for own personal growth and development
    • Ability to think creatively to solve a broad range of tax issues
    • Must be able to exercise sound judgment and appropriately evaluate risk
