    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

    The work involves performing a variety of non-medical activities and services necessary to meet the needs and comforts of residents at the Long-Term Care Facility of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

    The incumbent is a vital part of the health care team providing for comfort, safety and well-being of residents. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking employee. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.


    TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
    Welcomes new residents during the move-in process and learns about the residents' habits, customs, routines and preferences;

    Informs the Team Leader, LPN or designee of resident's problems, needs or concerns;

    Answers call lights, assists with residents' requests within scope of training and refers requests that cannot be met to the Certified Nursing Assistant or nurse;

    Feeds residents; sets up, passes and collects trays, nourishments and adaptive feeding equipment; supplies water pitchers and glasses (employees will not perform feeding until successful completion of training program as administered by higher-level nursing/administrative staff);

    Encourages socialization and involvement of daily activities through one-on-one interactions, small group activities as well as supporting family and visitor involvement;

    Assists with taking residents to and from activities and appointments by pushing wheelchairs or walking with independent residents;

    Participates with room cleanliness and organization, changes bed lines, cleans floors, empties trash and dusts according to established procedures;

    Gathers soiled personal laundry and takes to laundry room; puts away clean personal laundry in proper place;

    Maintains sanitation standards in all household areas by means of utilizing appropriate and timely cleaning techniques;

    Restocks linen carts, food related supplies, cleaning supplies and resident personal supplies;

    Participates in improving quality of care/services;

    Participates in resident plan of care;

    Complies with safety regulations and policies.

    FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:


    Good knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, safety regulations and policies and safe work practices; good knowledge of feeding techniques, food handling and storage; ability to work with the elderly as well as mentally and physically disabled adults; ability to establish and maintain working relationships; ability to communicate in a cheerful and tactful manner; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to speak, read and write in the English language; ability to remain calm in emergency situations and take appropriate actions; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    There are no education or experience requirements.


    NOTE:
    Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.


    NOTE:

    In addition to passing a Criminal Background check as per ECMCC Hiring Policy, candidate must pass a background check through the New York State Department of Health.
