    The Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Associate Director.

    The Associate Director will function as the financial point person in the Department and be responsible for maintaining the financial well-being of the Department by providing financial projections and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing staff, through leadership of all aspects of fiscal activities of the Department, including:

    Translating Department objectives into financial assumptions for planning.

    Hiring of accounting and analytic staff.


    Overseeing revenues, expenditures and cash positions for funds related to clinical practice, state-derived monies, indirect cost recovery, federal grants, industry and other sponsored contracts and agreements, and gifts and endowments.


    Analyzing financial and other business data related to work product, quality metrics including turnaround time and other business cycle metrics, physician and other staff productivity, and financial performance.

    Reporting on business and financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, and developing business improvements.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Department-wide Financial Systems and Reporting
    Supervise and manage the Department financial activities on a day-to-day basis including:


    Lead financial planning & analysis, accounting operations, and decision support for all department cost centers across the Clinical Finance & Compensation, Research Administration, and Procurement & Accounting teams.


    Plan, organize, and manage the implementation of the Department's $90M+ annual budgeting processes with specific areas of focus including; research, education, administrative operation, clinical, including direct hospital funding.


    Report to the Vice Chair of Finance and Administration, Department Chair, and other SOM executives on a regular basis, describing the financial state of the department.

    Recommend and implement corrective budget actions if necessary.

    Provide financial guidance and advice to the Department and Divisions.

    Identify and oversee use of appropriate financial software applications to facilitate department accounting, billing/collections, forecasting, and planning.


    Interpret policies and regulations concerning the department's financial activities; ensure compliance with the University's policies and procedures and guidelines from the federal government, state and other research project sponsors.

    Develop policies and procedures as they relate to fiscal management.

    Establish and maintain control systems for monitoring expenditures.

    Provide oversight of reconciliation and reporting of expenditures.

    Oversee response to external and internal financial and compensation survey requests.

    Responsible for audit compliance as it relates to finances.

    Program and Business Development
    Oversee program execution and business development plans including:

    Provide financial leadership for recharge service centers to assure their financial feasibility. Develop strategies for successful implementation of new centers and continuation of existing centers.


    Oversee the development of operational reports, analytical schedules and operational and financial forecasts that will be used in decision making in Department program development activities.


    Consult with program directors on financial and operational matters and develop plans to improve areas of financial and operational vulnerability where appropriate.

    Lead preparation of practice plan semi-annual accounting/incentive documents and disseminating decisions or results.


    Work with Vice Chair, Chair, Divisions and individual faculty to develop performance objectives and the reporting measurement of the objectives.

    Collaborate with high level management of partner institutions (e.g. FHCRC, other academic institutions) on business and operational issues.

    Research Administration
    The Associate Director is independently responsible for all aspects of administration including the following key areas:


    Manage the design and implementation of an organizational structure for the research administration program to meet the high demands on the system balancing any additional costs to the Department.

    Oversee the day-to-day grant and contract administration process through coordination with the grants managers and various research administration staff.


    Interact with the Faculty Research Advisory Committee on a regular basis to design operational systems that will support researchers' needs and their research programs.


    Oversee the design and develop the research administration infrastructure necessary to support the development of new Centers of Excellence within the Department.


    Manage staff interactions with researchers regarding the necessary administrative support systems and fiduciary oversight needed to assure the stability and success of their research programs.

    Supervision of Professional and Classified Staff
    The Associate Director of Finance will supervise either directly or indirectly all fiscal staff within the Department. This includes grant managers, fiscal specialists and student Associates.


    Human resource functions include:
    Coach and mentor team members.

    Complete performance evaluations, manage disciplinary actions, and provide professional development opportunities.

    Maintaining staff time records and leave requests, monitor overtime requests.

    Coordinating staff workloads and recommending revisions in roles and responsibilities as needed.

    Responsible for recruitment, selection, and training of new staff.

    Adherence to all applicable laws and contracts governing human resources.

    Special Projects and Self Development

    Represent department director at various meetings and on committees as requested or assigned.

    Participate in ad hoc planning as needed to ensure the most effective and efficient department operations.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Master's degree AND a minimum of 4 years' experience with finance management. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for the stated requirements.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills and a positive attitude to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced environment.

    Detail oriented with the ability to compile and maintain accurate data and records.

    Excellent oral and written communication.


    They will have demonstrated professional maturity, productive response feedback, and ability to maintain professional relationships with a wide range of faculty, staff, and community partners.

    Ability to collaborate across diverse populations.

    Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Software.

    Professional appearance, communication style, and presentation skills.


    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Experience in academic health centers, familiarity with higher education associations, government agencies, and university lexicons.

    Knowledge of and experience with the University of Washington system is desirable.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


    Schedule is normally within the business hours of 8:00a to 5:00p M-F but is not always fixed and workload does vary.

    The incumbent1s first responsibility is to get the tasks completed rather than keep to a fixed schedule. Flexibility in work schedule and intensity is needed.

    Position is suitable/eligible for occasional telework.

    Some travel between sites will be necessary by UW Health Services or other shuttles.
