    Emerson Health has partnered with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) to provide our newly hired, new graduate nurses or experienced RNs new to the Operating Room the Periop 101 Training program.

    The program focuses on providing the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for the professional perioperative nurse. Participants will learn the theoretical concepts, principles, and skills of perioperative nursing based on the guidelines and recommended practices established by AORN. The program is 9-12 months in length and consists of online computer training with a final exam, hands-on skills labs, and clinical rotations in the Operating Room from week 1.

    Program Details:

    Paid training based on AORN's Periop 101 modules

    Combination of classroom, clinical labs, and clinical experience in the operating room

    All new graduates will also participate in the Emerson Health Nurse Residency program, which is a 12-month program aimed at easing the transition into practice. This also includes:

    o Classroom/skills orientation

    o Precepted unit orientation

    o Monthly classes on a designated day each month

    o Residents complete a facilitated Evidence-Based Practice project by the completion of the program

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

    Experience

    Minimum one year medical/surgical or specialty nursing preferred.

    Licensure and/or Certification

    Current license as a professional nurse in Massachusetts required.

    BLS healthcare provider required.

    Skills

    Strong clinical assessment skills.

    Excellent customer service skills.

    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to change.

    Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.

    Computer skills required.

    Ability to maintain confidential information.
