    Instructor of Health Information Technology

    Aurora Downtown Campus

    The HealthProfessions and Public Service division at Waubonsee Community College iscurrently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Health Information Technology(HIT) with a commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holisticstudent success.

    The HealthInformation Technology (HIT) faculty will deliver comprehensive curriculum andinstruction for a range of topics clinical classification systems, health care law, data management,reimbursement systems, data statistics and analysis, health care informationsystems and other related courses.

    The full-time faculty member of HIT will be responsible for thecurriculum, instruction, and student learning assessment for Associate inApplied Science degree as well as a Certificate of Achievement. This program is accredited by the Commission onAccreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education(CAHIIM), on recommendation of the American Health Information ManagementAssociation (AHIMA).

    Theposition is based at the Downtown Aurora Campus and teaching assignments mayinclude days, evenings and/or weekends. Courses may be offered in variousdelivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online, synch-online, and hybrid. Thesuccessful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively useinstructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Duties andexpectations of this position include, but are not limited to:

    Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments thataddress the needs of a diverse student population and ensure that studentssuccessfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.

    Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating studentsto participate actively in all aspects of the educational experience.

    Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectivelyto deliver and enhance teaching and learning in online, hybrid, andface-to-face courses.

    Assisting the HIT department in the areas of curriculum development, accreditationmanagement, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct faculty mentor ship, assessment of student learning, support for student clubs andorganizations.

    Collaborating with team members and industry (i.e. Advisory Committee andemployer partners) to design and implement the most effective HIT program thatmaintains standards.

    Workingcollaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students andthe community.

    Modelingprofessionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonalskills.

    MinimumQualifications

    Bachelor's degree

    Registered HealthInformation Technician (RHIT) Certification

    Two years of field work(which equals 4000 hours for accreditation requirements)

    Teaching experience or Industry experience

    PreferredQualifications

    Two years of post-secondary teaching experience inHealth Information Technology (HIT) or a related field.

    Teaching experience at the Vocational/Technical orCommunity College level highly preferred.

    Experience incorporating technology and multimediaapplications into teaching and learning process and interest in all forms ofalternative learning is highly desirable.

    Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learningstrategies and the demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diversestudent populations is essential.

    Experience teaching traditionally underservedpopulations.

    Experience teaching online courses.
