    General Summary of Duties:

    The Radiation Therapy Tech participates in all technical aspects of radiation therapy, including simulation and administration of radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by the physician. The Radiation Therapy Tech is responsible for delivering ionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. They must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and performing a series of complex and precise technical procedures.

    Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Certificate or degree from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program.
    • ARRT certification required.
    Experience:
    • Previous experience in a radiation department through employment or clinical training
    • CPR training required
    • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and provide great customer service under stressful situations.
    • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and pleasant manner in both verbal and written form.
    • Ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to adapt quickly to change.
    • Ability to work both independently and with physicians and co-workers.
    • Ability to use and manage time efficiently.
    • Ability to follow the direction of physicians and supervisory personnel.
    Essential Job Functions:
    • Greet everyone with a smile.
    • Be in the department and ready to work at scheduled start time.
    • Will to work a different and varying schedule each week
    • Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Radiation Therapist performs treatment and simulation procedures, as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
    • Patient Care - 90% Perform radiation treatment and simulation procedures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists instructions and departmental procedures. Provide thorough documentation of simulation set-up, and procedure information.
    • Review treatment protocol criteria, to ensure adherence of treatment delivery to guidelines.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
    • Provides patient care and/or support activities appropriate to all ages served, primarily adults ages 18-65 or geriatric patients ages overage 65.
    • Understand and operate various Varian TruBeam and IX treatment equipment
    • Collect and manage relevant patient information
    • Help ensure proper positioning of patients for treatment using masks, molds and other equipment
    • Explain all procedures to the patient
    • Ensure that safety protocols are followed for patient, family and staff
    • Monitor patient's emotional and physical tolerance of treatment
    • Schedule patient appointments using Aria as per treatment plan
    • Check new start list frequently to ensure patients are contacted promptly regarding appointments
    • Assist in weekly patient chart checks
    • Gowns gathered daily for laundering and clean gowns placed in dressing areas.
    • All other clerical duties as assigned to assist patients, physicians and co-workers.
