Job summary
The job is to provide comprehensive health maintenance, preventive and primary medical care, and treatment for adult inmates in a county corrections facility. The Corrections Health Nurse will follow the six standards of practice: Assessment – Conduct and document initial and ongoing comprehensive and focused nursing assessments of the health status of patients by collecting objective and subjective data from observations, examinations, interviews, and written records in an accurate timely manner as appropriate to the patient's healthcare needs. The nurse will also be responsible for documentation medication administration immunizations lab tests public health laws regulations exercise considerable judgment recognize problems outside this role refer appropriately work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics analyze health problems utilize community resources identify community individual health problems plan administer solutions prioritize work within the corrections service office meet numerous deadlines function as a member of the healthcare team collaborate develop implement evaluate integrated client-centered plans care carry out physicians dentists nurse practitioners physicians assistant orders maintain confidentiality privileged information including confidentiality records deal sensitive issues such as HIV testing counseling pregnancy testing counseling respond medical emergencies potentially hazardous life-threatening environment perform multiple tasks simultaneously thrive dynamic fast-paced environments under pressure work alone satellite offices prepare information testify court cases maintain awareness safety regulations procedures times ability work inmates convey information ideas facts supervisors colleagues individuals inside outside county using language format audience best understand utilize computers technology communicate written verbal forms word processing texts emails spreadsheets department-specific software effectively relate well others including supervisors colleagues individuals inside outside county exhibit professional manner dealing others working constructive working relationships take personal responsibility quality timeliness work show up time follows instructions policies procedures meet productivity standards deadlines schedules.
