    Description

    Agency Clarification

    All U.S. citizens with Direct Hire Authority will fill these positions for fuels management activities at the unit/tribal level, including prescribed fire, mechanical and biological fuels treatments, and monitoring.

    Duties

    • Directs a prescribed fire/fuels management program, preparing and implementing routine aspects of prescribed fire/fuels plans.
    • Develops and recommends plans and schedules for prescribed fire, wildfire response, and fuels treatment projects.
    • Utilizes a database to model and analyze fire behavior and effects observation data.
    • Participates in planning and coordinating routine or limited aspects of the fuels management program.

    Requirements

    • U.S. Citizenship Required
    • Background security investigation and a valid state driver's license are mandatory.
    • Pre-employment and random drug testing required.

    Qualifications

    Experience and Education Requirements:

    Note: This position falls under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard for key fire management positions and requires specific experience levels equivalent to GS-08 or GS-09.

    Selective Placement Factors:

    • Primary Core Requirement: Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2) or higher
    • Secondary Core Requirement: Engine Boss (ENGB) or Crew Boss (CRWB) or Helicopter Manager (HMGB) or higher

    Firefighter Retirement Coverage: This position is covered under firefighter special retirement provisions.

    Prior Wildland Firefighting Experience: Prior firefighting experience is mandatory.

    All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

    Physical Demands: Field work requires physical exertion and working under various weather conditions, while maintaining good physical condition.

    Work Environment: Involves exposure to temperature extremes and hazardous conditions, requiring safety practices and precautions.
