FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY – MECHATRONICS
WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE

Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks an innovative, collaborative, and student-centered tenure-track instructor to teach Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing courses effective Spring 2026. The position will teach theory and hands-on skills to prepare students for successful careers in manufacturing technology as technicians.
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs, the full-time faculty position conducts formal classes and meets all lab objectives, when applicable, for assigned courses. Full-time faculty teach and evaluate students and prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Full-time faculty will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students' diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Additionally, full-time faculty contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institution, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs courses and prepares syllabi that have clearly articulated student learning objectives and learning outcomes that promote students' active participation in their own learning.
- Teaches on-campus and/or online classes in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
- Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies. Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
- Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goals and fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn. Develops reciprocity and cooperation among students. Encourages active learning.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, and field trips in efforts to meet students' varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
- Works individually with students who may need specific assistance in reaching their academic, personal, and career goals. Models respect for all students and conveys confidence in every student's ability to learn.
- Provides regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
- Employs a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of student learning outcomes for the course. Develops and designs an assessment program that ensures students' application and use of concepts, techniques, and innovations learned both in the classroom and through external course work.
- Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one's specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft.
- Participates in professional development activities aimed at enhancing the Talents of Teaching.
- Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings and contributes to campus and District committees.
- Contributes to and provides leadership in academic and professional communities and promotes collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
- Adheres to City Colleges of Chicago's student-centered philosophy. Fosters student involvement and commitment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering or a related technical field and at least two industry credentials from the American Welding Society, the Manufacturing Skills Updated1/2026Standards Council (MSSC), the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the American Society of Quality, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or an electrician's license from the City of Chicago (will count as two industry credentials) or an IBEW journeyman's card (will count as two industry credentials);
– OR –
Eight years of experience in manufacturing, including experience in production or industrial maintenance and at least two industry credentials from the American Welding Society, the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC), the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the American Society of Quality, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or an electrician's license from the City of Chicago (will count as two industry credentials) or an IBEW journeyman's card (will count as two industry credentials)
- Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
- Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
- Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
- Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred. Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Salary Information: $58,000 - $65,000 annually (9-month salary range)
- Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities
