    The YMCA of Greater Houston is currently seeking an Associate Association Aquatics Director to support the Association Aquatics Department.

    Job Description


    Develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates YMCA aquatic programs with a focus on quality, safety, youth development and healthy living within assigned group of Y's.

    Supports the Association Aquatics team to focus on program development, compliance, and safety.

    Serves in an Aquatics Director role seasonally and as needed to ensure motivated staff teams, complete staffing coverage, and safety in the center pools.


    Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
    2.One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.

    Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include:
    completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

    5.

    Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications:

    Lifeguard Certification including CPR-Pro, AED, Oxygen and First Aid, Swim Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor (within six months of hire).



    Language Skills
    Ability to read, interpret, retain, and teach documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure/educational manuals.
    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, staff, members of the YMCA, and/or others, as well as in one-on-one situations.



    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.



    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense, understanding, and sound mature judgment to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, including assisting with curriculum learning.

    Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Ability to ensure children's safety and maintain YMCA and state standards and guidelines at all times.


    Physical Demands:

    Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor the pool area.

    Ability to perform all tasks demanded from employees inclusive of but not limited to sitting and standing for long periods of time, swim 500 meters without stopping, and move lane lines.

    Possess the swimming ability necessary to obtain certifications, teach, and rescue.


    Hours

    Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evenings and weekends.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    Essential Functions


    Association Aquatics

    • Assist with developing strategies to increase program quality to grow program retention, impact, and revenue for center aquatics programs.
    • Help increase innovation in aquatics by working with Association Aquatics team to determine need and priority.
    • Work collaboratively with Association Aquatics team to provide guidance and identify opportunities of improvement regarding Aquatics programs and safety. Provide input on Aquatics Standards and any needed updates.
    • Provide support and serve as a resource to Aquatics Directors within assigned centers.
    • Assist with onboarding new Aquatics Directors.
    • Assist with determining best practices, tools, resources, and trainings for Aquatics Directors.
    • Participate in Aquatics Cabinet meetings and lead teams as needed.
    • Attend and participate in 4 hours of in-service each month, rotating centers.
    • Assist with Safety Around Water programming as needed.
    • May serve as the center Aquatics Director when there is a vacancy or when support is needed.

    Seasonal Aquatics Director

    • Serve as the Aquatics Director for at least one seasonal pool each summer.
    Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
    Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

    • Works with Center Facility Technician to monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
    • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
    • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
    • Creates and schedules swim classes and water fitness classes and swim team practices and meets if center has a swim team.
    • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
    • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
    • Develop and monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
    • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
    • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
    • Maintains and updates all Aquatic Records, including in-service training records, safety drills, and skills testing.
    • Ensures that all Aquatic Staff are knowledgeable and proficient in implementing center emergency action plans. Responsible for seeing that expectations are met regarding Aquatic facility and program audits.
