    About Oakland Leaf

    Oakland Leaf was founded in 2001 by a collective of East Oakland educators intent on empowering youth voice. For the past 20+ years, Oakland Leaf has evolved into a highly regarded leader in the fields of youth development and out-of-school time learning.

    Oakland Leaf facilitates culturally relevant out-of-school time programming for approximately 1,000 K-12 East Oakland students through seven after school programs at public elementary and middle schools across East Oakland, one paid internship programs for high school students, and two 5-week summer camps - one for elementary children and one for middle school youth. Our programming emphasizes social and emotional learning, creative expression, critical thinking, leadership development, social justice, college and career readiness, and includes a diverse range of enrichment opportunities including S.T.E.M. activities, sports, poetry, visual arts, dance, literacy, community impact projects, and more.

    Summary of Position

    The Crew Leader prepares and provides in-person instruction to elementary or middle school students in one of two Oakland Leaf Summer Peace Camps. Crew Leaders lead workshops focused on social injustices that happen in our communities and develop community impact projects to address the social injustices. Middle School Program ONLY: Interns will support Crew Leaders on facilitating workshops. This position reports to the Camp specific Program Manager.

    Our theme for Summer 2024 is "Summer of Reclaiming our Power"

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Create and facilitate engaging, project-based curriculum that is of high interest for Oakland elementary or middle school aged youth daily for two 1.5-hour enrichment sessions. Each session will be with two different groups of students.
    • Facilitate conversations around the theme of self-exploration, social justice and community awareness.
    • Establish and maintain a physically and emotionally safe learning environment where meaningful relationships between students and themselves can take root and flourish.
    • Support in completion of all administrative tasks on a daily weekly basis including but not limited to student attendance, monthly reports, surveys, etc.
    • Participate in weekly mandatory staff meetings and training as scheduled.
    • Support in the development of a Community Impact Project with the youth in your crew workshop .
    • Represent Oakland Leaf by maintaining a high level of professionalism including but not limited to communication, attendance, dress code, code of conduct, etc.
    • Be a team player and step up as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Provide TB clearance and background clearance from FBI and DOJ
    • Provide 48 semester college units or pass the Instructional Aide exam
    • Ability to manage and support a group of 20 middle school students or 2o Elementary school Students
    • Ability to plan and prepare lessons and deliver instruction
    • Commitment to Oakland leaf mission and core values

    • Required to work some nights for events
    • Must be able to lift up to 25lb

    Work Schedule and Period

    • Note: This is a summer position with a potential to be contracted for the school year
    • Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM from Monday, June 3, 2024 through Friday, July 5, 2024 excluding Juneteenth and 4th of July.
    • Orientation and Camp Prep from Tuesday, May 28, 2024 through Friday, May 31, AM to 3 PM daily.

    Compensation

    • $30 per hour
