    Job Title: Senior IT Comm Tech (Radio)

    Location: Denton, TX

    Job Type: Contract (6 months)

    Job Pay: $35- $50/HR

    Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am - 5pm

    Job Summary

    Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining vehicle lighting, radio, and related equipment in all public safety and utility vehicles.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Creates radio programs for operations. Maintains and repairs digital radio network.
    • Develops complex programming scripts using Motorola Customer Programming Software for various radio models and features.
    • Installs, programs, monitors, maintains, upgrades, aligns and troubleshoots handheld and mobile radios and accessories. Works with vendors and contractors on maintenance and repair of equipment due to warranty and maintenance agreements.
    • Works with Lead Technician and Admin to construct major electronic systems from component parts; installs, programs, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs major electronic systems and peripheral devices per manufacturer's specifications and FCC rules and regulations.
    • Reads highly complex blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams for vehicle installation and Radio System and troubleshooting purposes.
    • Maintains telephone/radio/pager contact with the division or dispatch center and responds to emergencies as necessary.
    • Is proficient in installation and wiring of all equipment in all types of vehicles including high amperage fuse designs, radios and antennas, headlight flashers, radar units, sirens, gun locks, video equipment and recorders, vehicle computer systems, computer programmable serial controlled light bar systems, strobe lights and strobe packs, LED lighting, switch boxes, PA systems, flashlights and chargers, DC/AC inverters, consoles, equipment trays, safety cages and computer mounts.
    • Is proficient in installation and wiring of K-9 systems, including bail-out units, Hot Dog temperature control systems, cooling fans and radio frequency dog safety alert systems.
    • Displays proficiency in the fabrication of custom brackets and mounts.
    • Works with Lead Technician and Admin to maintain inventory and documentation of vehicle equipment and maintaining a database on the information.
    • Works with Lead Technician and Admin to order and maintain a parts inventory of the supplies necessary to keep the bay operational.
    • Able to work with customers and suppliers to schedule installations and repairs.
    • Has an adequate knowledge of vehicle wiring and safety systems, i.e. air bags and restraint systems, including GM, Ford, Chrysler, International and Peterbilt vehicles.
    • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Motorola 7/800 MHz trunked radio system and sub-systems.
    • Properly maintains all safety equipment while following all safety rules.
    • Able to complete work order request forms accurately and thoroughly.
    • Follows Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), shop safety, vehicle battery safety and airbag safety.
    • Maintains Regular and punctual on-site attendance.

    Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
    • Five (3) years cumulative experience in the following: electronic communications, fiber optic maintenance and networking experience

    OR

    • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

    • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
    • Has the ability to perform basic RF troubleshooting and other testing on Motorola radios
    • Ability to use and care for tools and equipment
    • Demonstrates an understanding of basic PC use and basic network connectivity
    • Is able to use a volt meter and an amp meter and directional watt meter

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Must pass CJIS
    • Good physical dexterity; capable of working in all types of weather, digging, pulling wire, lifting heavy loads, standing and performing tedious work for extended periods of time
    • Correctable vision and hearing

    Physical Requirements:
