    Summary

    Position Summary

    The Medical Surgical RN is responsible for the excellent delivery of care to a variety of patients including; pediatric, general surgical, general medical, stroke, orthopedics, and urology. Working within a model of Safe Patient Family Centered Care, the Medical Surgical RN collaborates with the Health Care team to develop a plan of care, monitor the effectiveness of that plan, and to assist in the development of a discharge plan to best meet the patient's and families' needs. The Medical/Surgical RN works under the direction of the Medical Surgical Manager.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
      • Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
      • License/Certification: Current License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine; Current BLS Certification
      • Experience: A minimum of one year in an acute care setting preferred.
      • Other Certification: As required by department, including Annual Electronic Fetal Monitoring competency for any RN assisting Laboring Women
    The Medical Surgical Department is a 45-bed unit where nurses provide care for individuals across the life span (pediatrics - geriatrics) who are experiencing illness or having surgery that is appropriately cared for in an acute community hospital setting. This includes caring for patients with stroke, sepsis, exacerbation of chronic conditions or post-operative patients as just a few examples. The Med-Surg at Pen Bay provides expert care to patients requiring telemetry, progressive care, palliative care, and hospice.
