    Summary:


    To utilize equipment producing two-dimensional high frequency sound waves to create diagnostic images of the human body for use in diagnosis of disease or organ malfunctions.

    To participate with physicians in reviewing sonographs for making diagnostic judgments based on test results.

    Cross Training in is possible if determined that there is a need within the department. If interested, communicate with the Manager/Director prior to cross training. If an employee receives any additional certification it does not automatically place a Technologist in a multi-modality position.

    Multi-modality is defined as being certified in more than one imaging modality.

    To be in a multi-modality position you must have director approval and agree to work in any of the modalities that you are certified for and that there is a need for.

    Responsibilities:

    Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

    ☒ Neonate (birth - 28 days)

    ☒ Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)

    ☒ Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)

    ☒ Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)

    ☒ Adult (18 years - 65 years)

    ☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)


    • Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.
    • Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
    • Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors.
    • Provides necessary safety measures.
    • Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.
    • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Diagnostic Imaging Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes but is not limited to the age of the patient served.
    • Maintain technical skills relating to imaging factors.
    • Maintain knowledge of anatomy and pathology in order to produce high quality images.
    • Proficiently operate all functions of multiple quality Ultrasound equipment.
    • Maintain proficiency in ___ Abdomen ___ OB/GYN ___ Cardiac ___ Vascular __Breast
    • Select the appropriate machine setting for quality images.
    • Ensure exams are completed in a prompt manner from receipt of electronic order, imaging, and interpretation.
    • Maintain skills in performing emergency and routine patient care as required.
    • Utilizes effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport.
    • Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care.
    • Ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout procedures.
    • Monitor the condition of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and efficient operations of the department.
    • Maintain adequate supply inventory in work area, restocking as needed.
    • Maintain proper cleanliness of probes and safety care.
    • Ensure proper recording and transmission of patient information.
    • Maintain data for the PACS System by accurately entering patient demographics and exam.
    • Identify images with accurate, complete, and readable information (patient ID information, Lt/Rt, time, supine/upright, etc.)
    • Record patient history and exam information on the Tech worksheet as required. Monitor electronic orders for accuracy of information, particularly appropriateness of test.
    • Participates in routine call assignment.
    • Maintains cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and other work areas.
    • Performs clerical and receptions tasks.
    • Assist with the transportation of patients to and from the department as required.
    • Maintains appropriate certification and continuing medical education requirements related to clinical practice.
    • Participates in educational activities to enhance knowledge, skills and performance.
    • Perform PI activities as directed by Manager/Director.
    Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

    Job Requirements:
    The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.


    EDUCATION:
    Graduate of an approved course in medical sonography OR certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required.

    Current Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, ARDMS or Certification within 2 years of hire required.


    Previous Experience Requirements:

    EXPERIENCE:
    Previous clinical experience preferred.

    Previous healthcare experience preferred.

    Previous clinical experience to be eligible for registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers required.


    Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

    SKILLS (If Applicable):
    Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.
