- Assists the RN in planning patient care by appropriately selecting supplies and equipment needed for cases.
- Checks that instrumentation and equipment are in working order.
- Maintains aseptic technique throughout set up and surgical intervention.
- Shows awareness of patient condition and special needs.
- Anticipates surgeons' needs during intraoperative phase.
- Maintains patient safety by adhering to fire prevention strategies.

- Communicates equipment/instrumentation issues to the appropriate personnel (CSS, Materials Manager, AHN, Director). Performs "down time" assignments (checking outdates, stocking, rooms, picking cases, etc.).
- Performs counts according to hospital policy.
- Initiates appropriate procedure for incorrect counts.
- Correctly handles and identifies surgical specimens.
- Safely disposes of biohazardous material.
- Actively participates in room turnover between cases.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Completion of accredited surgical technician program required
- New York State Surgical Technician Certification through the NBSTSA required.
- On call rotation to ensure coverage in the OR required
- BLS from American Heart Association required.
- Prior surgical technician experience preferred.
- Must be computer-literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.
