    Functional Safety Engineer Job Description SummaryA member of the Driveline Product Engineering Safety and Compliance group, functional safety engineers help AAM ensure that its products are functionally safe, of a high quality, and fit for purpose.

    A Senior Functional Safety Engineer is a non-managerial, engineer who can act both as an individual safety engineer and as a project functional safety lead/manager as defined in ISO AAM is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer capable of acting in the role of senior functional safety engineer upon projects in the automotive driveline and electrification spaces.

    The senior functional safety engineer will specifically support product engineering teams in ensuring AAM products implement an acceptably safe architecture through all phases of development.

    Job Description Project functional safety task planning, estimation, and tracking Author technical safety requirements, safety concepts, and safety mechanisms Create and/or facilitate system, subsystem, electrical hardware, and software safety analyses.

    Perform safety verification, conformance measures, and safety audit relating to specification, design and verification of safety-related embedded control systems.

    Provide functional safety guidance to product engineering work products for specification, architecture, design and verification of safety-related embedded control systems.

    Execution of AAMs functional safety lifecycle as detailed in AAM policies and procedures.

    Perform the development of work packages in accordance with ISO Establishment of ASIL C/D Automotive electrification technical safety concepts, component requirements and verification activities.

    Perform hardware design analysis and metrics calculations, defining mitigations and diagnostics in the scope of safety mechanisms.
    Required Skills and EducationMSC level education in engineering or technology degree relevant to electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer engineering or equivalent plus 3 years experience OR Bachelors education plus 6 years experience
    • Experience with inverter or BMS and circuit boards is required.
    • Experience in performing FMEDA and PMHF calculations is required
    • Experience in the specification, design or verification of safety related embedded control systems.

    Experience performing system safety analyses such as deductive/fault trees and FMEA/inductive-style safety analysesExperience in the establishment of ASIL C/D Automotive electrification technical safety concepts, component requirements and verification activities.
