    Description
    Purpose of Position

    This position maintains, develops, and updates geologic and/or geophysical information on existing storage fields operated by Northern Natural Gas; provides consultation to operations management on matters related to storage field gas cycling and recovery, reservoir integrity, and performance improvement; and provides advice and technical guidance to field operations teams related to reservoir management, well operations, and related project development and planning.

    Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
    Plans, directs, and evaluates all storage reservoir surveillance activities at all storage fields.
    Conducts and interprets surface and subsurface geological studies.
    Performs log interpretation (both cased hole and open hole) and correlation.
    Prepares, analyzes, and updates geologic maps, diagrams, and reports.
    Generates and evaluates new gas storage field prospects and evaluates expansion prospects based upon geologic integrity.

    Manages projects related to seismic and remote sensing surveys, reservoir monitoring, gas containment, and well optimization in the storage fields.

    Monitors and coordinates contractor activity.
    Designs and develops geologic maps, analyzes formations and drill cuttings, and interprets well log data.
    Conducts geologic mapping and studies to verify reservoir limits and configuration, and coordinate map updates as needed.

    Designs, conducts, and interprets subsurface studies in reservoirs, to determine placement for new wells, reservoir boundaries, and suitability for storage development.

    Monitors the outside drilling activity within and surrounding existing fields, to develop effective protocols for protecting storage field asset integrity.

    Collaborates with well engineer to develop well workover scope and schedules, as appropriate to maintain well integrity and regulatory compliance.

    Develops and monitors storage cycling plans and guidelines and evaluates and forecasts reservoir response.
    Supports regulatory filings and data request responses related to wells and reservoir operations.
    Consults and supports engineering team on storage-related capital construction projects.

    Demonstration of advanced technical knowledge and an advanced understanding of reservoir management and the company's business processes.

    Participation on teams that results in contribution to achievement of team goals and objectives, sometimes in a lead role for a phase of a project and often providing significant technical leadership.

    Position Requirements
    Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geological science or other related technical field.
    Master's degree and professional registration for geologist or geophysics preferred.
    Ten or more years relevant experience.
    Ability to analyze and interpret logs and maps.
    Ability to utilize software programs to create geological maps and databases.
    Knowledge of seismic interpretation and computer modeling (reservoir and log analysis).
    Knowledge of mid-continent geology and regional trending.
    Knowledge of well operations, drilling, rework and completion techniques.
    Knowledge of cased hole and open hole logging and evaluation techniques.
    Ability to create specifications and manage consultants in collection of diverse information to refine geologic interpretation of storage reservoirs.
    Ability to manage assimilation of geologic and well data into databases for evaluating performance of reservoirs.
    Knowledge of GeoGraphix software preferred.
    Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport.
    Ability to plan, organize and schedule work and work independently.
