    Begin The Turn is a mobile addiction medicine clinic providing low-barrier medical and recovery-based care, in a community setting, to people with opioid use disorder.


    The Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) reports directly to the Program Manager for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Center for Urban Bioethics Begin the Turn Program.

    The CRS will be responsible for engagement with patients and community members in order to reduce stigma and provide peer mentorship, support, and advocacy.

    The CRS will assist patients of Begin The Turn by facilitating clinical care and services, assisting with participant workflow, and assisting with community resource navigation and referral.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Works individually and as a team to engage with potential and active program participants
    • Assists during direct service delivery to facilitate participant flow and throughput
    • Assists program participants both during direct service delivery and telephonically in identifying personal recovery goals, assisting in setting objectives for each goal, and determining interventions to be used to accomplish these goals
    • Assists with care management and community resource navigation
    • Supports individuals to access community opportunities and programs (e.g. jobs, GED, treatment, counseling) with referrals as appropriate
    • Develops, maintains, and coordinates connections with existing and new resources to address social determinants of health
    • Advocates for individuals through court system when necessary
    • In collaboration with the program manager, works with the community to build strong relationships and credibility, including developing networks with other outreach programs to coordinate services. Provides regular community updates as relevant.
    • At the discretion of the Begin the Turn program manager, assists with daily operation and long-term program goals and success
    • Participates, as necessary, in organizing responses to overdose surges and increasing Begin the Turn's visibility through community-based activities
    • Maintains and documents longitudinal care management plans for individuals engaging with Begin the Turn services
    • Performs timely documentation of all activities and patient services using designated tracking software to maintain accountability, support data reporting requirements, and facilitate presentations and publications
    • Participates in case conferences and Center for Urban Bioethics meetings
    • Assists with retrieval and return of mobile unit in provision of transportation to Begin the Turn site location, following all CUB transport guidelines including refueling and daily documentation, and notifying all required parties of malfunctions or vehicle issues. In collaboration with Begin the Turn Team assists with uniformity and cleanliness of mobile unit and clinic site location
    Performs other duties as assigned

    Required Education and Experience

    Certified Recovery Specialist and/ or Peer Recovery Specialist certification and at least 2 years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    Required Skills and Ability


    • Demonstrated commitment to serving North Philadelphia community.
    • Demonstrated ability in relationship building and working with individuals with SUD in recovery.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Philadelphia demographics and training in community engagement.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to be detail-oriented and to handle multiple tasks.
    • Responds to and resolves challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
    • Demonstrated computer skills, along with the ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
    Preferred


    • Experience with crisis intervention.
    • Understanding of identifying and diffusing "hot spots" for overdose


    This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
