    Position Summary: This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of the physical plant and grounds of the Ellsworth Correctional Facility with the majority of work being with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

    Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

    The Facility Maintenance Supervisor provides inmate supervision to various portions of construction, maintenance and repair activities within the institution. Ensures that assigned work is completed in a timely manner. Assists in seeing that necessary materials are ordered and received with the degree of efficiency necessary to ensure constant continuation of the project and prevent unnecessary delays due to material shortages. Ensures that all work under their direct supervision is performed efficiently and effectively on a daily basis. Discusses physical plant conditions and other matters with proper departmental personnel. Offers assistance of technical advice and information regarding the direction of the specific problems, obtaining cost information and other pertinent facts as are needed by supervisor. Assists in preparing mechanical services portion of the institutional budget by providing assessment of personnel and logistic needs and assembling costs and specifications for both continuing operations and capital improvements. Ensures that security is maintained and compliance to General Orders is strictly followed in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Ensures that all tools and equipment are kept within their assigned areas, and that they are maintained in a satisfactory, operational, and safe condition. This includes all state vehicles, shop equipment, and related machinery. Attends meetings with supervisor and other Facility Maintenances Supervisors to discuss implementation of given projects, and to supply any information requested. Reviews preliminary drawings and specifications on new projects in discussions with supervisor of costs and feasibility. Develops new procedures or modifies existing programs to maximize the productive utilization of time, equipment and man-power in the construction and maintenance of the physical plant. Ensures that cleanliness, sanitation, and safety practices are complied with. Maintains work areas in well organized and clean manner. Contacts local engineers as directed for reasons of utilities, roads, streets, and drainage. Ensures that Uniform Building Codes and State Fire Codes are implemented and followed. Completes other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Education : High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the standard practices in the building trades, plumbing carpentry, electrical; masonry; painting; welding; sheet metal; refrigeration and air conditioning, and mechanical trades. Knowledge of safety measures and occupational hazards of the trades; knowledge of regulations concerning hiring. Ability to read interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and specifications. Ability to keep careful and thorough records. Ability to plan, organize, assign and approve or otherwise supervise the work of skilled craft workers. Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Skill in the use and operation of tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in construction and repair work at the skilled craft level. Skill in evaluating, analyzing and resolving construction and mechanical problems.
  • Necessary Special Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Journey/advanced level experience in building trades and Freon licensing.
  • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must pass a background test and drug screen.
