    The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl.


    The District proudly serves over 2200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK thru 2nd; Big Creek Elementary, 3rd-5th; Central Elementary, PK thru 5th, Middle School, 6th-8th; and High School, 9th-12th).

    North Polk is seeking to hire a Principal at North Polk Central Elementary School, located in Alleman, Iowa.


    This role will be posted through May 10, 2024, virtual screening interview the week of May 13, 2024 with final in person interviews anticipated to be held the week of May 20, 2024.


    Compensation Range:
    $105, ,000Days:260Benefits: Benefits associated with this role include district paid premiums on single medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 25 vacation, 13 sick and 2 personal days, as well as IPERS

    Basic Function:
    Responsible for daily school activities within enrollment center. Coordinate curriculum, manage staff, and provide a safe and productive learning environment for students.


    Performance Responsibilities:
    Structure regular and systematic classroom observations to increase teacher effectiveness; demanding high quality of performance from all staff members.
    Provide leadership and supervision of certified staff and encourage creative and innovative instruction.
    Interpret, execute and support Board Policy and administrative regulations keeping staff informed of changes in policy and procedures which affect them.
    Provide leadership in the improvement of the total educational program within the school community.
    Assist in the implementation of school curriculum and the evaluation of instructional materials.
    Interpret school goals and objectives to students, teachers and parents.
    Plan, schedule, and assign duties to all staff members.
    Assist in screening, hiring, in-service orientation, assigning, evaluating, and dismissing school staff as outlined by the Board Policy and negotiated agreement.
    Delegate authority and responsibility where appropriate.
    Maintain accurate records as required by federal, state and local officials.
    Assist in the general supervision and maintenance of the physical plant and grounds.
    Provide for the school's total needs in requisitioning equipment and supplies within the funds allocated.
    Assist in the development and administration of the budget in the area of responsibility.
    Recognize accomplishments and achievements of students and staff.
    Assist in the implementation of supportive services in meeting the needs of students and staff.
    Plan and supervise fire drills and emergency preparedness program.
    Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary according to due process.
    Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
    Conduct meetings of the staff as appropriate for proper functioning of the school.
    Develop a professional rapport and good working relationship with all staff members.
    Maintain a positive image for the school as well as good public relations within the community.
    Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
    Be involved in administrative groups at the area educational agency and state levels.
    Participate in Management Team meetings and activities.
    Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
    Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously.
    Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff and the community.
    Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
    Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
    Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and communicate the same to the community.
    Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
    Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
    Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
    Assume responsibility for the observance and/or implementation of all Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
    Establish and maintain effective learning climate in the school.
    Direct the activities of non-certified staff members.
    Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of reports, records, and all other necessary paper work.
    Delegate authority to responsible personnel when necessary and appropriate.
    Work with various members of the central administrative staff on problems/projects of district wide importance.
    Report to the central office regularly concerning the needs of the school with respect to personnel, transportation, equipment, supplies and curriculum.
    Consult regularly for the services of resource personnel so that professional staff can receive effective assistance when needed.
    Maintain and control the funds generated by student activities and auxiliary services.
    Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
    Provide for accurate inventories of property and for the security of the property.
    Keep the superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature, as well as routine matters related to the superintendent's accountability.

    Specifications/Qualifications:
    Knowledgeable in school improvement, educational trends, curriculum, and measures of academic performance.
    Possesses a collaborative leadership style and can make tough decisions.
    Will work with the Board, staff, students, and public in formulating a common vision and philosophy for public education in the buildings.
    Knowledgeable in the areas of professional growth and staff development.
    Knowledgeable of staff evaluation procedures and must possess Iowa Evaluator Approval Certification.
    Valid Iowa Administrative certificate.
    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
