    The Departmentof Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria is seekingan experienced colorectal surgeon to join its faculty and to provide servicesat OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Thesuccessful candidate will be fellowship-trained in colorectal surgery. Theymust also have exceptional clinical outcomes, interpersonal skills, and acommitment to the long-term development of a colorectal surgery program inthe community. The position will include a faculty rank of Assistant,Associate, or Professor, commensurate with experience level.

    The facultymember will have the opportunity to teach residents, engage in research andparticipate in clinical program development.     Position isideal for applicants with strong teaching abilities and interpersonal skills.There are many opportunities to grow and advance within the Department ofSurgery. This individual will also participate in quality improvementactivities and develop initiatives, programs, and research studies incollaboration with other attending physicians, residents, and medicalstudents. A strong research programinfrastructure exists, and there are multiple opportunities for engagement inlocal, regional, and national professional societies.

    Position Summary

    To provide instruction, engage in research, and participate in clinical program development while providing the highest-level care for patients.

    Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as part of the General Surgery Service.
  • Provide clinical coverage with surgical section.
  • Perform surgery and patient follow-up.
  • Provide education and mentorship to medical students and residents.
  • Develop clinical and/or research studies in association with other attendings, residents, and medical students.
  • Other duties as directed by the UICOMP Chair of Surgery.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligible to obtain permanent Illinois medical license
  • American Board of Surgery certification or eligibility.
  • Fellowship-trained in colorectal surgery.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at rank of Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor.
  • Must be eligible for medical staff membership and privileges at university-affiliated teaching hospital.
  • Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching colorectal surgery to medical students and residents.
  • Peer recognition in field and participation in regional/national societies and editorial board appointment on specialty journals.
  • Experience in presentation/participation in national meetings on specialty topics.
  • Basic science, clinical, or education research skills.
