    Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2024.

The candidate will contribute to biochemistry and introductory courses and will develop a dynamic, productive research program in biochemistry—broadly defined—involving undergraduates.

Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year, which could be either classroom or laboratory courses, serving as an academic advisor, mentoring undergraduate research students, helping to maintain departmental instrumentation, and actively participating in the governance of the department and college.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of our interdisciplinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program and may also have opportunities to teach in the broader college curriculum through interdisciplinary courses and our First-Year Seminar program.

Qualifications We seek a colleague who has a genuine interest in teaching, research, and advising/mentoring undergraduate students.

Candidates must have a doctorate in chemistry or a closely allied field; ABDs will be considered if the degree will be completed prior to the start date.

Postdoctoral research experience and/or college-level teaching experience are preferred but not required.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, scholarship, and/or governance that they can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of our community, and we welcome candidates in all areas of biochemistry—broadly defined—especially those that complement and diversify the department's and college's existing strengths.

Candidates are expected to become high-quality teachers and productive researchers, and Gettysburg College provides support through start-up funds, departmental and external faculty mentorship, department-specific tenure and promotion guidelines, internal professional development funding, and family-friendly policies.
