    Kamehameha Schools Preschools is actively seeking a School Counselor dedicated to providing social-emotional and well-being support to preschool-aged keiki (ages 3-5). The ideal candidate should have proven counseling experience working in an educational setting, particularly with young children and their families. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, as the role entails consulting, advising, and guiding teachers, students, and families. A solid understanding of Hawaiian culture and education would be beneficial for this role.     Job Summary

    Responsible for advising and counseling students regarding academic, educational and short-term social and emotional problems. Teaches guidance classes to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings. Communicates with parents and consults with administrators, teachers, and others regarding students' academic and educational matters. Participates on a Student Success Team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists. Teaches group guidance classes, and participates in workshops for parents. Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

    Essential Responsibilities
    • Is universally accessible and makes an effort to know every student for which responsible. Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters, including post-high school planning as applicable. Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures. Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
    • Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.
    • Consults, facilitates and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations. Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
    • Participates on Student Success Teams, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and participates in the development of student supports plans with particular responsibility for academic supports. Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
    • As appropriate, supports and attends student activities and events.
    Position Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

    • Master's Degree in Counseling/Guidance, Education, Social Work. Degrees and credits must be earned from a nationally accredited college or university.
    • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; organized; good public speaking skills; strong listening skills; ability to relate well to a variety of people (i.e. - faculty, staff, students, parents, etc.).
    • High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for the well-being of students.
    • Knowledgeable and experienced in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • School counseling and teaching experience.
    • Understanding and sensitivity to the Hawaiian community and culture.
    • Understanding and familiarity with computer applications and word processing functions.

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
    • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
    • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

    Working Conditions

    • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
    • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
    • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.

    Compensation Benefits

    Placement in the compensation range outlined below considers highest degree/educational credentials acquired from an accredited institution, and the number of full-time, verified years of eligible and related work experience. Salary is also adjusted to the appropriate work year.
