    Position Summary
    The individual in this position is responsible for assisting in the overall maintenance of the network.

    The incumbent will also work with the Director of Infrastructure and other members of the infrastructure team to provide support for the daily operation of the network and network security.

    This position is considered essential as defined by the Essential Personnel policy and is deemed to be critical to the continuation of key operations and services in the event of a Suspension of Campus Activities/Operations.

    Major Responsibilities
    A.

    Participate in the management of day-to-day operations of the network, including but not limited to:

    LAN (Extreme Networks)
    WLAN (Extreme Networks)
    Firewall (Palo Alto Networks)
    WLAN (Palo Alto Networks)
    Telephone System (Avaya IP Office
    B. Responsible for 2nd & 3rd level support on infrastructure issues.
    C. Research, troubleshoot, and document problems and added resources.
    D. Create, maintain, and update documentation of networking infrastructure.
    E.

    Assist in the implementation, installation, research, support, and maintenance of network-related equipment and technologies:

    Assist with management of all Local Area Networks (LAN):
    i. All Core Ethernet Switching
    ii. All Edge Switching
    iii. All Wireless APs
    Assist with management of aspects of the Internet Connections:
    i. All Routers
    ii. All Firewalls
    Assist with the management of the physical network backbone:
    i. All Fiber Connections
    ii. All Ethernet Connections
    Assist with the management of all related network technologies:
    i. Wireless Clients
    ii. VPN
    iii. Network Access Control (NAC)
    iv. Monitoring
    v. Alerting
    vi. All other networking-related equipment and software.

    • Assist in the maintenance of Phone Systems.
    • Assist in the maintenance of the Cable TV system.
    • Assist in procurement of all related equipment and technologies.
    • Provide backup to the other Networking members of the Infrastructure Team
    F.


    Assist in maintaining vendor relationships:

    • Assist in managing wiring and installation contractors.
    • Assist in managing all outside network consultants and vendors.
    • Assist in managing all networking support contracts.
    G. May be required to participate on various ad-hoc committees and participate in various University-wide activities and initiatives.
    H.

    Assist in setting security standards, processes, procedures, and policies and recommends appropriate changes to policies and procedures to meet new standards.

    I.

    Collaborate in the planning of major technology initiatives and the communication of planned and unexpected technology changes to the campus community.

    J. Take an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with the department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.

    Work with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and department goals and key performance indicators.

    L. May perform other related duties as assigned.

    Supervises May supervise student employees and interns. Occasionally requires project leadership.
    Education & Experience Qualifications
    Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, telecommunications, or a related field.
    Experience in networking and network security is preferred.
    Length and quality of experience may be considered in lieu of a current degree.
    Minimum Skills/Abilities
    Excellent customer service and communication skills (both oral and written).
    Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
    Must be able to manage time efficiently with minimal supervision.
    Ability to work in a team-centered environment and to hear constructive feedback from peers.

    Must be willing and able to work extended and/or flexible hours, including nights and weekends, on a project-by-project or system-by-system basis.

    Ability to document configurations, procedures, and status reports for data center systems.
    Demonstrated ability to research, design, and implement modern technologies and provide documentation of how systems are built.
    Should possess intermediate or advanced skills in network administration, including Palo Alto Networks, Extreme Networks, or similar product lines.
    Knowledge and understanding of concepts and protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, and DCHP preferred.
    Proficiency in working with multiple platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX/Linux preferred.
    Knowledge of one or more pertinent programming or OS scripting languages preferred.
