    General Position Summary:


    The Administrative Shift Coordinators (ASCs) are responsible for the coordination of patient care services and hospital operations in collaboration with, or when administration is not on site.

    They optimize clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction outcomes.


    Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

    • Performs one-call functions and coordinates patient admissions.
    • Collaborates with physicians to determine the appropriate level of care, admit status, criteria for admission, and complete orders.
    • Functions as a clinical resource person for staff; mentors and coaches.
    • Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Leaders to meet unit operational goals and optimize patient care outcomes.
    • Functions as a liaison between departments to maximize effective communication and teamwork.
    • Manages hospitalwide operations related to triage, overcapacity, disasters, staffing, and equipment to meet patient care needs.
    • Communicates and reports quality and/or risk management concerns.
    • Supports and performs various departmental duties (including Administration, Employee Health, Pharmacy, Patient Care Coordinators, Medical Records, and Central Supply) when they are not on-site.
    • Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the Shine Behavior Standards.
    • Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

    Secondary Functions:


    • Participates in departmental and hospitalwide informational meetings and inservices, including staff meetings, hospitalwide forums, and seminars.
    • Reviews department and hospitalwide policies and procedures annually.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    • Frequently contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times.
    • Are usually face-to-face, with some contact by telephone and e-mail.
    • Are usually with patients, staff, and physicians.

    Specific Job Skills &
    Mental Activities:


    This position requires a working knowledge of various clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction functions.

    This employee must be service-oriented and have excellent communication, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership skills, professional interpersonal skills, independent judgment skills, basic math skills, computer skills, multitasking skills, and time management skills.

    This position also requires knowledge of the Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.


    Education, Licensures, and/or Experience:


    • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
    • Basic computer skills (required).
    • Current AZ RN License (required).
    • CPR/BLS certification (required within 30 days of hire date).
    • ACLS certification (required within 6 months of hire date).
    • PALS certification (required within 6 months of hire date).
    • Minimum five years RN experience and two years in a supervisory capacity (required).
    • Nursing experience in critical care (preferred).

    Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

    Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

    The worker is exposed to contact with chemicals and infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, on-call status, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.


    Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, crawling, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 20-50 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

    This is a safety sensitive position.
