    Summary:

    Under general supervision ofthe Director of Nursing Resource Management directs and evaluates nursing careand related activities of assigned nursing units on the off-shifts.

    Serves as the administrative resource personwithin the hospital for interpretation and implementation of policies andprocedures for all departments as required.

    All essential functions performed in the position reflect theage-specific needs of the patients.


    Responsibilities:

    Plans and directs activitieswith the Clinical Manager Assistant Clinical Manager and/or Charge Nurse toprovide optimal nursing care on assigned nursing units.

    Responds to administrative problems definesand resolves problems as they ariseor request assistance as required.
    Plans and directs patientflow and patient placement to provide optimal patient care services through theinstitution. Works collaboratively with all departments and Lifespanaffiliates. Responds to patient flow problems on units and in individual pointsof entry resolving issues as they arrive. The nursing supervisor maintains a globalperspective of hospital operations.

    In collaboration withunit/department leadership and/or charge RNs adjusts shift staffing inaccordance with the ANA staffing standards to ensure adequate patient care onassigned units and subsequent shift.

    Makes rounds to evaluatenursing care and ensure maximum utilization of personnel. Monitors cost-effectiveness by assessingadequacy of staffing and reporting variances in the staffing complement. Initiates corrective measures as indicated.
    Provides guidance andeducation to staff on patient care delivery as needed; provides leadership coachingand feedback to Charge RNs.
    Responds appropriately to assessand evaluate internal and external customer needs.

    Ensures conformance withestablished policies and proceduresConducts Charge RN Leadershiphuddles for providing frontline leaders with current hospital capacity patientneeds and staffing resource information.

    Responds to Code Blue RapidResponse Team and similar hospital emergencies.
    Conducts audits for universal protocol procedures in themedical-surgical areas as needed. Acts as Incident Commanderduring Code Triage until relief is provided.
    Completes occurrence reports asrequired. Initiates follow-up orcorrective interventions as indicated.
    Consults with the Clinical Manageror Charge Nurse regarding unit routines or problems.
    Prepares and submits reportsas required. Submits suggestions forimprovement of administrative operation of nursing units to the nursingadministrative staff.
    Participates on variousnursing or hospital committees/nursing councils as assigned.
    Directs and/or participatesin studies analyses and other forms of research.
    Acts as a liaison withNursing Administration and department managers on various nursing matters.
    Maintains quality assurancesafety environmental and infection control in accordance with establishedhospital department policies procedures and objectives. Performs other related dutiesas required.


    Other information:
    Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing

    QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:


    Bachelor's Degree in Nursingfrom an accredited college or university with current license to practiceprofessional nursing in the State of Rhode Island.

    ACLS and BLS certification.
    Conformance to the Code ofProfessional Nurses. Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Actof the State of Rhode Island required.
    Maintains a current knowledgeof contemporary professional nursing practice within the legal framework of theNurse Practice Act.
    Current BLS ACLS and NIHStroke certification is required.
    Current certification inrelated specialty or certification within two years.


    QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:
    Three years of progressivelyresponsible clinical experience with one year as Charge Nurse and/or Assistant ClinicalManager level preferred

    INDEPENDENTACTION:
    Performs independentlywithin department and hospital policies and procedures referring unusualproblems to Director

    SUPERVISION:
    Direct supervision of nursing personnel on theoff-shift. Responsible for immediatecounseling and corrective actions on the off-shift.
