    Description of Work:
    The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. The department works with local, regional, national, and international organizations to fulfill its mission to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.

    LEAD is the state's premiere resource for labor market, workforce and economic development information, research, analysis, and insights. The division's primary functions include: collecting, analyzing, estimating and reporting key economic, employment and educational data; running economic and fiscal impact analyses; evaluating educational, workforce and social programs; conducting research and policy analysis to support the state's strategic goals; and leveraging labor market, education, and other economic data to strengthen North Carolina's workforce development, educational, community development and economic development systems.

    The Labor and Economic Analysis Division seeks a Data Analyst for its Employment Statistics & Analysis Team. The position is responsible for carrying out data analysis, research, communication, and project management tasks to meet unit and team goals and deliverables as well as responding to informational inquires and requests. The position is expected to serve as a data and statistical expert for the Employment Statistics & Analysis Team.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Using data management and statistical software to perform analysis.
    • Analyzing employment data and determining its accuracy and validity.
    • Documenting data requirements and processes and ensuring data quality.
    • Carrying out data analysis tasks and supporting employment statistical programs in meeting deliverables.
    • Leading and collaborating with team members and staff in data and statistical analysis.
    • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with federal and state partners and data contributors.
    • Translating complex data and concepts to non-technical audiences via verbal and written communications.
    • Responding to internal and external information requests by providing timely and quality responses.
    • Communicating statistical and research findings to data users and stakeholders; and producing information products.
    This position will be located at 301 N Wilmington, St., Raleigh, NC. Depending on business need and job suitability, this position may be a candidate for telework, subject to management approval.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
