    Description

    The Quality Engineer will work with a global cross functional team at Armstrong, with a focus on quality assurance and quality control to develop processes and procedures for continuous improvement based on quality standards, safety regulations, and client expectations. Responsible for conformity of quality compliance for Armstrong product to assure conformance. Implements process & quality improvements to the manufacturing process by planning and prioritization of tasks and checking to assure quality compliance of Armstrong products according to the regulatory agencies.

    This position is in North Tonawanda, with limited travel. The salary range is $80,000- 90,000. The key accountabilities of this position are:

    Quality Engineering Responsibilities:

    • Lead ISO9001, EMS14001, UL, CSA, ETL, NSF and Intertek quality compliance of all products manufactured in North Tonawanda
    • Respond to ISO9001, EMS14001, UL, CSA, ETL, NSF and Intertek auditors by preparing report and product documentation
    • Documents Quality compliance by completing approval applications; recording test results; preparing investigative reports; preparing and filing Declarations of Conformity; maintaining quality compliance database.
    • Contribute to quality compliance plan by collaborating with engineering planning and design teams.
    • Participate in developing quality compliance policies by researching and analyzing engineering specification.
    • Evaluate new quality compliance methodologies to qualify vendors, components, and parts.
    • Analyze and evaluate new products to ensure they comply with company and legal regulations.
    • Manage and host auditors to present engineering design, manufacturing process and quality control process
    • Lead and prepare technical report including test, inspection report and performance metrics data
    • Initiate Quality Alerts for the internal and external stakeholders in respond to immediate respond to Auditor's findings.
    • Own resolving Customer issues, contribute to investigating Return Goods,
    • Lead 5 Whys and problem solving to analyze quality escape and to develop a short-term and long-term containment action plan
    • Focused on parts/product safety and warranty to support both Supplier and customers.
    • Partner with the Engineering team during the investigation and lead Quality review meetings.
    • Develop effective reports for the leadership to highlight ISO9001, EMS14001, UL, CSA, ETL, NSF and Intertek schedule.
    • Lead and execute quality projects, such as drafting SOPs, Work instructions, training Manual to improve Audit process
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders to improve the quality of new or existing products.

    Quality Standards:

    • Read, review, approve Engineering Drawing and the GD & T in detail, check dimensions (numerical or mathematical), form, size, orientation, or location, of a part. (According to AMSE Y14.5)
    • Train Quality Assurance inspector, and Supplier Quality Engineer about regulatory requirements
    • Audit suppliers and evaluate their capability to manufacture complying products.
    • Document lessons learned from warranty analysis, Supplier's report, new projects (DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) /PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) /CP (Process Capability).
    • Initiate Non-Conformity Report to document non-conformity and disposition accordingly.
    • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning.

    Role Requirements

    • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or qualified in a relevant technical discipline.
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment or in HVAC, fluid management fields
    • Strong knowledge of Quality Management system
    • Lean Six Sigma experience
    • Knowledge of AC motors, VFD drives, sensors, and controls
    • Familiar in ERP Software, Infor LN is preferred.
    • Knowledge in Pumps, HVAC, Heat Exchangers, and pressure vessels is preferred.
    • Familiar with troubleshooting techniques
    • Outstanding presentation and communication skills with customers and suppliers.
    • Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures)
    • Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
    • Self-directed with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
