    POSITION SUMMARY

    JOB TITLE:

    Endo Technician, UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel)

    SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Following all regulatory and professional standards, guidelines, requirements, and ethics, the Endo UAP Tech is accountable to perform duties under the direction and on-site supervision of the RN when providing delegated patient care.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Aware that the department follows guidelines, standards, recommendations of SGNA and AAMI. We are also governed by regulations from the FDA, EPA, OSHA and CMS.
    • Through gained experience and continuing education, the technician will become competent in the use and maintenance of the endoscopic equipment and instrumentation used in gastroenterology, seeking supervision as needed.
    • Demonstrates initiative in carrying out projects independently.
    • Displays professional attitudes and behaviors (trust, respect, honesty and caring).
    • Follows universally accepted infection control guidelines.
    • Dons appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).
    • Follows prescribed procedures and techniques for effective decontamination and personal safety.
    • Inspects, disassembles and cleans endoscope at bedside prior to delivering scope to CS>.
    • Completes room set up with appropriate equipment and supplies needed for the procedure.
    • Anticipates additional needs the provider may have during the procedure
    • Demonstrates the ability to provide care relative to the patients' age-specific needs.
    • Facilitates proper patient positioning prior to endoscopic procedures.
    • Handles specimens correctly.
    • Sets up OR room and tower prior to case
    • Assists physician in the performance of procedures such as EGD and colonoscopy.
    • Facilitates teamwork by willingly assisting other team members in room cleaning, turnovers, procedure set ups, patient transport and instrument cleaning, as needed.
    • Follows standardized procedures for inspection and handling of sterile goods to maintain package integrity and contents sterility by verifying that all indicators have turned to the appropriate color.
    • Is aware that failure to conform to safety policies may cause injury to self, other personnel, patients and visitors.
    • Avoid shortcuts in procedures with the knowledge that doing so may have adverse effects on patients.
    • Reports equipment/instruments/machines in need of repair.
    • Communicates effectively promoting efficiency, safety and good relations with other departments and services related to patient care.
    • Exercises discretion and follows established policies in dealing with patient information.
    • Monitors work in progress and provides direction and guidance as required.
    • Handles minor departmental problems without need to consult with the manager.
    • Is aware of what constitutes a HIPPA violation
    • Maintains adequate supplies of procedure trays, kits, instruments and linens are on hand at all times.
    • Completes mandatory inservices and competencies annually.

    REPORTS TO: Registered Nurse, Clinical Supervisor SDS/ENDO, Clinical Supervisor OR Director of Perioperative Services, VP Patient Care Services, CEO

    INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Medical and Nursing staff, other Hospital departments, and the community.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience/Specialized Skills:Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control

    Required Education/Course(s)/Training:

    High school graduate

    Completion of SGNA's Associate Program.

    Preferred Certification/Registration:

    BLS

    BLS upon hire

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Stands, walks, lifts (up to 50 lb.), bends and reaches most of the day.

    Must have good manual dexterity and visual acuity.

    Must have good verbal and problem solving skills.

    Must be able to read, comprehend and execute written and oral instructions.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Exposure to chemicals, hazardous substances, blood/body fluids, heat, water and noise.

    Frequent interruptions in daily routine to answer phone, deliver supplies and assist the surgical team.
