    SUMMARY:


    The Quality Assurance Supervisor will be responsible for the implementation and compliance of all Food Safety and Quality programs and procedures, and for the hiring, training, and supervision of Quality Assurance department staff on 2nd shift.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensures that tasks and functions are performed in a safe manner that upholds expectations throughout the production and packaging processes.
    • Manages Quality and Food Safety programs, including SQF program requirements, FDA /FSMA mandated Food Safety programs and policies, and Customer requirements.
    • Ensures compliance with all quality programs, including GMP, SQF, HACCP & SSOP's and maintains current library for all GMP's, SOP's and SQF.
    • Is responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing and revising as necessary all Food Safety and Quality programs, Prerequisite Programs, Standard Operating Procedures and Plant policies as relating to the quality and safety of existing and new finished products.
    • Apply administrative and record-keeping processes to support the programs listed above.
    • Ensure incoming materials meet safety and quality standards through inspection, vendor visits and certification programs.
    • Manages the daily operations of Quality, and Microbiology departments, including staffing, supply management, and procedures, and assists R&D with implementation of new and revised formulations.
    • Oversee finished product microbiological program and environmental monitoring program
    • Ensure manufacturing specifications, standards, protocols and procedures for quality control and new product development are followed.
    • Ensure that all new regulations (i.e., FSMA) are quickly and accurately implemented.
    • Effectively communicates with all levels of plant management regarding quality and food safety concerns.
    • Is responsible for facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions for raw and finished goods non-conformances, and implementation of preventative actions and verification of effectiveness.
    • Leads inventory hold process and manage block and unblock inventory with quality related issues - determine disposition.
    • Participate and contribute to continuous improvement of departmental SOPs.
    • Directly handle consumer complaints and provide reports/trends based on accumulated data; initiate action plans to address repeat concerns.
    • Is responsible for hiring, supervising, overseeing training, task assignments and performance of all Quality Assurance Associates, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
    • Manages plant Sanitation Supervisor and provides support for associated sanitation programs.
    • Effectively communicates with all Customers and Regulatory Agencies.
    • All other duties as assigned by Quality Manager and Director.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP's and SQF audits would be valuable.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Has knowledge of current FDA laws and SQF requirements as applied to food manufacturers preferred
    • Possesses skills in supervision of employees responsible for Food Safety and Quality
    • Is proficient in writing technical material, procedures, and communications
    • Has excellent organizational skills
    • Is skilled in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Word and MS Excel
    • Has excellent problem-solving abilities, including math skills
    • Has the ability to effectively communicate and delegate responsibilities relating to quality and food safety procedures with all employees responsible for monitoring, testing and inspecting raw materials, finished and unfinished product.
    • Is or is willing to become HACCP/HARPC certified.
    • Is or is willing to become PCQI certified.
    • Is or is willing to become certified as SQF Practitioner.
    • Is or is willing to become certified in FDA Better Process Control.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts

    • Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
    • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

    EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience with progressive responsibilities in a quality assurance environment.
    • Must speak English, other languages a plus.
