    Lead Extended Care Technician Overview

    The Lead Extended Care Technician (Lead Tech) provides oversight and direction to Tech staff during the day-to-day operations of their assigned Extended Care Program. In addition, they are responsible for the standard execution of all Extended Care Technician (EC Tech) duties.

    Key Responsibilities

    Staff Training and Development
    • Conducts new hire orientation to the EC department and ensures ongoing competency to the EC Tech job duties.
    • Provides in-depth training into computerized documentation systems, such as TIER and Microsoft Outlook.

    Maintaining a Safe and Secure Environment
    • Assists in planning and implementing disaster drills to educate staff on emergency policies and procedures.

    Policies and Procedures
    • Ensures the EC Tech staff is properly trained in EC Policies and Procedures.
    • Maintains staff logs (shift checklist, driving logs, etc.) for EC Tech Supervisor's review.

    Patient Integration and Support
    • Assures EC Techs are proficient and competent in their assigned job duties through ongoing training – i.e., new patient orientation, luggage and personal searches, breathalyzer and drug screening, monitoring phone/computer room, and providing patient transportation in the EC vehicles.

    Recovery Network Coordinator
    • Ensures that all members of the recovery community engaged with an EC patient have been vetted and understand Ashley's expectations.
    • Ensures the completion of sponsorship agreements and their inclusion in the patient's EMR.
    • Maintains and updates approved 12-step meeting list, and other recovery support groups, i.e., SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery.

    Peer Recovery Support Specialist
    • Provides peer recovery support by meeting with patients one-on-one to support their recovery and overall wellness, providing mentorship and advocating patients as needed and where appropriate.
    • Assists patients in identifying and establishing positive changes in behavior, connecting them with resources to support their recovery, and identifying and establishing positive support relationships.

    Patient Education
    • Develops and delivers patient education lectures and workshops as needed.
    • Supports the patients in development of effective communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and problem-solving skills.
    • Supports the development of healthy behavior based on choice.

    Interdepartmental Liaison
    • Serves as a liaison with other departments and managers within the organization and EC Techs – i.e., coordinating patient transfer with Clinical Aide and Nursing staffs.

    Medication Management and EC Inventory Management
    • Ensures proper training for the EC Techs when observing patients self-administering their medications.
    • Coordinates with nursing for the administration of naltrexone (Vivitrol).
    • Ensures 'house supply' of over-the-counter medications (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.) are stocked and maintained.
    • Inventories and purchases all food, cleaning, and additional items needed for the operation of the EC Program. Audits adherence to the dietary regulations as outlined in the EC Program.

    Patient Appointments and Transportation
    • Coordinates coverage for patient appointments with external service providers, i.e., dentist and doctors' appointments.
    • Coordinates/provides transportation for patients to and from appointments, to the next level of care (aftercare), and for programming purposes.

    Vehicle Maintenance and On-Call Responsibilities
    • Notifies EC Tech Supervisor of any vehicle maintenance needs and helps coordinate maintenance as needed.
    • Alternates on-call status with the EC Tech Supervisor to cover shifts in case of an emergency.

    Ethics and Confidentiality
    • Serves as a role model for the Extended Care patient community and staff through ethical conduct while at work and in the community, including ensuring competence or objectivity is not or could not reasonably be expected to be impaired due to mental, emotional, physiological, pharmacological, substance abuse, or personal problems.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • High School graduate or equivalent; prior experience in treatment center or health care field preferred. Supervisory experience.
    • Must be a certified Peer Recovery Specialist or working towards certification.
    • Speak and communicate clearly; basic written skills. Basic mathematical skills.
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Communicate well with patients/staff; enforces policies/procedures.
    • Current CPR certification.
